Coach Cutcliffe has been given a clean bill of health from his doctors following his recent heart surgery.

As an aside, Randy Sanders, the most recent OC at Tennessee has resigned due to the "stress" upon his family of coaching on Rocky Top. He will most likely now be available to hold the same position at another school.

Cutcliffe has an interest in being a head coach again and will probably not accept the OC position back at Tennessee due to Sanders' departure. You may remember that Cutcliffe held that position prior to becoming the head coach at Ol Miss where he posted a 44-29 record.

I posted this because I knew some of you might be interested in this news.

Poor Randy Sanders. He wasn't too pop'lar at Tenn uh see.

As for Cutliffe, I can't believe Pete Boone fired that guy. I wonder if he regrets that decision with a 3-5 record? I don't even remember what the contraversy was. The guy went to a bowl the year he was fired.

I still have this horrible thought that Pete Boone and Turner will be reunited again. I mentioned this a long time ago.

Dare to dream that Cutliffe would come to SMU.

just playing devils advocate...

you have to realize that Rusty Burns was successful at cincy.. he had a very high powered offense and i believe cincy went from being a nobody to competing for a CUSA championship...
Now obviously Sanders has been successful, but look at the talent he has at the real UT year after year...
Burns on the other hand turned nothing into something at cincy.. I just don't think we should bring in another offense especially when our qb of the future.. Willis, knows this offense backwards and forwards and he is only a redshirt...

Now the other side is easy.. get the best people around you as possible, and it would be tough to say know to the OC of Tennessee.. imagine him goin to the studs of Texas and saying I want you to play early in my offense at SMU.. he has skins and burns doesn't...

there i treaded the fence again

Cutcliffe was brought in solely for the purpose of signing Eli Manning. Eli didn't want to play for Tommy Tubberville ... oh wait- that didn't matter, b/c Tubberville left Ole Miss in the middle of the night to go coach the War Eagles, I mean Plainsmen, I mean Tigers.

Boone was waiting for an excuse to axe Cutcliffe - and a 4-7 record (albeit 3-5 in conference) did him in. What was worse was that he lost 20-13 to Memphis and 37-35 Wyoming. But he also only lost 27-24 to LSU last year, and at least Cutcliffe never lost to Vandy.

Pete Boone is everything that is wrong with Ole Miss Athletics right now. If Copeland goes, don't be surprised if Turner goes to him. B/c Boone is about as popular at Ole Miss right now as Copeland is here... and look for SMU's "winning ways" to continue under Pete Boone. That recipe would be the ultimate cooking for SMU's demise.

With Boone at the helm, SMU would probably never be able to refer to itself as SOUTHERN Methodist University b/c clearly that is offensive. We'll probably have to change our mascot, as well. The guy is almost as PC as the NCAA.

I'd take Copeland over Boone any day -- and if Copeland could somehow get Cutcliffe to SMU (very very unlikely), I would be all for that. However... don't hold your breath.

3-8 last year got Bennett a contract extension!!! At "southern" football schools.....there is actually pressure and expectations placed on the head football coach....unlike at SMU.

What are you talking about, man? Get your facts straight before you throw crap out like this. Cinci went 5-7 in 2003. I remember burying my head in my hands when I found out all Bennett could get for a new OC was Rusty Burns. I had hoped for the best, but it was a pretty mediocre hire.

I honestly hope you are being sarcastic. Cutcliffe is not the guy to turn this team around. He's an overweight never-was-has-been with no disciplinary skills, no real NFL ties, and no star power to attract anyone. Let's give Bennett the rest of the year and then, if necessary, discuss actual logical contenders for the job.

I was never impressed by Cutcliffe. Put Bennett at an SEC school and he would recruit his ace off. We need a guy with Bennett's energy and personality. We need PB to turn the corner and win more of these close games.

AMEN!!! Well, to most of what you said. As for Pete Boone, speaking as an Ole Miss grad - HE IS POSSIBLY THE MOST HATED MAN IN MISSISSIPPI. Not only did he ruin the opportunity we had after going 10-3 and winning the '04 Cotton Bowl, but he got rid of Col. Reb and is attempting to get rid of anything else that makes Ole Miss unique. As you can see from the Rebels' season so far, it has backfired and blown up in his pathetic face!

I still have stickers that say "Pete Boone: Col. Reb is my mascot!" The day he comes to SMU Athletics is the day SMU signs the death warrant for the program.

As for Cutcliffe...from day one as a freshman at Ole Miss, I was surpised at what a big pansy he was - he NEVER made gutsy calls and held back Ole Miss at the time by calling WAY too conservatively. I was glad when he left b/c I wanted Ole Miss to hire a big name coach (Ed Orgeron is NOT), but he might actually work at a place like SMU. I'd have to think on that one...but as for Pete Boone, I hope his name is NEVER associated w/ SMU.
