SMU Still Has Shot at Texas Division II 1A Championshiphey all high school Classes in Texas have Division 1 and Division II Championships-why can't we to give us something to play for. All I know is they call the Division II champions Champs too. With victories over TCU and Rice and games remaining against UH and UTEP, I say we are still in the Texas state championship race!!! If Tyler Ebell is really out it might not be so outlandish. Bennett feel free to steal this idea to motivate the team. It couldn't hurt in recruiting either. It really is important for us to start beating and then dominating the schools we recruit against. I think that is part of TCU's success-they are seen by recruits as the Big Fish in a Small Bowl. Hey sometimes you got to get a little creative like the great Polyester Bowl ("Its the Next Best Thing to Cotton")Championship SMU won in the early Eighties. I do however reserve all Intellectual Property Rights to the "SMU 2005 Division II IA Champs" T-Shirts and other merchandise. Hey I think this could qualify as one of the 90 Greatest Moments in SMU History even better than beating Division 2 powerhouses like NTSU in 1989 and Cal. State Northridge in 1999-Copeland would love this stuff!!!
THE RACE TO THE FINISH LINE
Comments: SMU has two weeks to prepare for the Coogs in a key matchup to set up "The Big Shootout" for all the marbles against UTEP at home on November 26. Tickets Still Availiable. SMU Athletic Director Jim Copeland is considering opening up Standing Room Only Seating in the South Fireworks Landing Area in the South End Zone for the anticipated overflow crowd. Rumors also persist that President George W. Bush is trying to rearrange his schedule so that he can attend and award the traditional William P. Clements Memorial Championship Trophy emblematic of Division II 1A supremecy. The award was recently named in honor of former Govenor Clements in honor of his crucial contributions in creating the Division II 1A Championship. SMU officials have had preliminary meetings considering the possibility of building a helicopter Landing Pad adjacent to Ford Stadium and Mockingbird Lane so that the President, First Lady Laura Bush, former Trustee and Vice President Chaney, White House Counsel Harriet Meirs and Attorney General Gonzalez can land Helicopter 1 on the SMU campus to attend the game. Expect long lines and tight security.
i will invite them to my suite......do you want a spot as well?
just think of the brainstorming that will take place....
This sounds like a good thing.Right up SMU's alley.
Look-when I was in 6th grade at Preston Hollow Elementary I was coached by my mentor Coach Wilbur Woods. Coach Woods was a former Marine Drill Sargeant who dressed in Aggie YellLeader attire every day. We played in about a 5 team league and 4 teams got to go play a game at the end of the year at Franklin Field on Hillcrest. We weren't a very strong ballclub and I don't think we had won a game going into the season finale at Pershing. It was then that Coach Woods made a dramatic and inspirational speech-He leaned back against the wall, put a toothpick in his mouth and said "Boys, this team can do one of two things. You can either go to the Franklin Bowl or you can go the Toilet Bowl."
Well I don't know about you Boys but this is one SMU Fan who is tired of going to the Toilet Bowl. So what's it going to be?-"Oh Stallion UH has won half their games" "Oh Stallion UTEP is almost undefeated" I say I'm not gonna sit here and watch SMU go to the Toilet Bowl again. Houston? They're Dead Men. UTEP ? DEAD!!! Now whose with me!!! Hey Hey Ho Ho Look Whose Goin' to the Franklin Bowl. SMU 2005 Texas Division II 1A State Champs!!!!!!
BTW to those of you who would dare think that the great Stallion would stoop so low as to make this little story up-there were 3 future SMU Lettermen playing on that legendary Preston Hollow team. 4 Year Football Letterman [deleted] Blaylock, Soccer All-American or whatever Jet Leonard ("the JET stands for John Edward Thomas- Dude) and SMU Track/Soccer Letterman Alan Winn. Coincidence? I think Not!!! Mr. Woods' inspirational speech that day gave each of these future Mustangs the drive and will to succeed. So what's it goin' to be-we got 2 more games until Gymnastics and Ping-Pong replace Football on TV. Are we going to cry and moan or are we going to get that 2005 Texas State Division II 1A Championship Ring?
"Remember when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor."The Delta House frat boys are solidly behind SMU in the race to win
Div. II-A. We remember playing and winning the first Polyester Bowl against Arkansas in Fayetteville (when SMU was on probation under Ron Myer and couldn't go to the Cotton Bowl as the SWC champions). To be bowl eligible, all we have to do is win 5 or 6 games a year (if they are the right opponents) according to the AD. Stallion for Vice-President (a fitting second level recognition for SMU competition these days). Sam I Am
All Right then. OK better jump on the bandwagon now men while there is still room and before it leaves the Station. Note to all you Naysayers. SMU hasn't beaten both TCU AND Rice in the same year in 19 years going back to 1986. You Gotta BELIEVE!!! Get on board-join in ...... SMU 2005 Texas State Division II 1A Champs!!!
