No championship or bowl game signs in FordWhy doesn't SMU put up some signs in Ford Stadium to commemorate past championships and bowl game appearances? There is a great football tradition on the Hilltop (and it will be back!)...I think the University should commemorate that tradition. Also, they need to do anything to instill pride in SMU football fans. Anybody have any thoughts on this?
Kick 'Em 'Stangs!!!
YES!! banners, more banners..why don't they do this....EVERYTHING about SMU athletics SUCKS!! We do nothing right, if I were AD , I would balh blah blahg blah..........
If that's the way you would look at it, that's just sad. When I walk through the concourse at Ford and see the banners of our great players, whether it's Doak Walker, Eric Dickerson or even a recent guy like Ramon Flanigan, I think of how great they were, and how lucky we are that they played at our university. Somehow, I just don't feel the overwhelming need to see the negative side of everything. For your sake as well as ours, I wish you didn't, either.
Was SMU lucky that they paid Dickerson more than any other program would so that he would come here? What has he done for the school since he left? It appears that the Dickerson legacy is part of what led to the demise of the football program.
All I'm saying is that as an SMU fan, I feel lucky to have watched Dickerson run with the ball. He was a great player, and I enjoyed watching him run.
I also consider myself lucky to have seen Flanigan play, and I feel lucky to have seen all of the other great players I've watched through the years.
Hey genius, how much did we pay Dickerson to come here? Are you saying it was more than A&M paid him, including the Trans Am they bought him? Enlighten us on how much ED was compensated. If you don't know, then shut the F up.
Well, I don't know either, but if it was a dime then it was illegal and contributed to the death penalty which caused me to have to miss two years of college football while I was at SMU and tainted my college experience, so you can shut the F up.
Personal request:
Please let us not turn this thread into a "everyone else did it" thread. we have enough of those already and none of them have erased our death penalty nor have they caused anyone else to get it. Thank you.
Nobody said anything about the legalities of accepting funds to play football anywhere JTSnob. Since you were at SMU after ED graduated, I doubt you have any first hand knowledge of what, if anything, it took to get ED away from A&M. I am tired of all these people pointing the finger at ED or anyone else when they have no idea whether he accepted any inducements to come to SMU. Obviously other players did because we were put on probation for their transgressions. Show me any NCAA report that listed ED as a beneficiary of any illegal inducements to come to school at SMU and then I will shut the F up. And mrydel, you are correct, there is no need to hash out the arguments that everyone else was "doing it". That will not change a thing. The facts are, we did, we got caught, and we paid the price. End of story.
Lest we forget..Some of us even need to told the stories about Harry Shuford and the Rose Bowl game of 1935, much less the golden era of Doak Walker whom I do remember. Legacy is all important in anything, but especcially sports. Put up the banners. If you need a donation to buy them, I'll kick in for them just many others will do.
