Texas State or Sam HoustonIs our I-AA opponent/12th game opponent set in stone? I thought the deal was done but I can't find anything.
Please refrain from the "Colorado College of Mines" and "Illinois School for the Blind" jokes that usually follow mentioning SMU scheduling I-AA opponents.
I don't know about being set in stone, but this is what the DMN reported back in August:

Man, if we do not win all four of those that could be bad. Even 3-1 would seem suspect.
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
We are only playing one of those. We have Texas Tech set in stone for 2006, I believe. So we have Ark. State, NTSU and TT for next year and one I-AA team, but which one? And when? I would assume 9/16.
Have you seen Rice's non-conference schedule next year? They play Army on the road, which if it were homem I'd say they could win, but they play Texas at home and also both UCLA and Florida State on the road. This is why I don't object to scheduling soft as much as others do. I prefer SMU playing Ark. State in a home and home or SMU paying $$$ to play a I-AA team at home to whoring out the football team to Florida State and UCLA for cash. And make no mistake, that is what Rice is doing. They are taking money in exchange for traveling to Florida and California to get their brains beat in.
I'd rather dress as a whore in front of Florida State and UCLA for cash, and then kick ash like we did against almost B(ull)CS(hit) TCU. Instead we are paying or losing cash to risk falling on our ash. and into mediocrity forever for a W.
Something is wrong. That adds up to 6 games which leaves only 6 for conference games. I'd guess we will only play one of North Texas or Arkansas State. If I were betting, I would say we will play Texas Tech, Arkansas State, Sam Houston State, and Texas State in 2006.
we do not play TCU next year. Not sure about the TTech vs two I-AA opponents, but I believe UNT and Ark St are both locked in. Hopefully we can play TTech and only one of the I-AA schools. Between Texas State and Sam Houston, who cares?
Maybe you'll care after learning that Texas State according to Sagarin is
rated: #82 Texas State AA = 65.93 7 wins 2 losses. What is to be gained by getting knocked off by NO NAME AA schools rated higher than we are for no money ![]() ![]() Maybe Turner, and Copeland are getting us used to playing them ![]()
Sam Houston State would be a better contest than Texas State. But then, I'm biased.
![]() And it would give all the McCown haters a chance to see a little 'revenge' against the school where he transferred.
No, no, no.
TCU not on schedule for 2006. Arkansas State and N. Texas are for sure. I am 99% sure we are not playing two IAA teams in the same year. With Texas Tech that makes four nonconference games. And I will say it again and again and again. Nobody remembers who you play, just your record. If we start 3-1, the only thing people will know is that we are 3-1 and nobody will give a cr@p about who we played.
According to this:
http://www.orangeblood.org/Sports/foot/ ... yteam.html The only nonconference game Tech currently has on the schedule is at TCU.
I think our next series with Tech starts in 2007.
Case in point, Baylor. They got props. "The surprising Baylor..." with all the cheesey wins they started with. Well.. uh... except for that win against us. Go Ponies!!
