3-8

Chances are that we will go 3-8. Wins over Houston and UTEP would be upsets. I don't know how SMU can keep Bennett with back to back 3-8 seasons and a winless season before that. I'm just stating the obvious. I think SMU will keep Bennett if he goes 4-7, but I just don't see how they can justify it with another 3-8 record.

If SMU goes 3-8 (which is probable), maybe Bennett gets to change some of his assisant coaches to keep his job. Why should the Titantic worry about the icebergs?

well, we don't know the terms of any buyout, but assuming there is one...I wouldn't hold my breath about SMU changing coaches after this season. We obviously aren't generating any revenue at the gate, so unless some rich alum is ready to "pony up" to buy this coach out and then to bring in a new coach, Bennett is going to get at least another year if not more.

I agree CP,

The Board of Trustees and the administration are fine with 3-8...."but we are losing close games"... There will not be any changes. We have to be running a huge deficit in the Athletic dept w/ attendance in fball and bball. I would think we would have a tough time buying him out of his contract. Do we get any $$ from the C-USA bowl games?

It's been almost 4 years next month!! - 8 wins??

my understanding of most conferences' revenue sharing agreements is that any team making a bowl keeps the 1st $750,000 with anything over that going into the revenue sharing pool. Since the Liberty Bowl is CUSA's only bowl that pays more than the minimum $750,000 I don't think there is any revenue sharing from bowl proceeds...or if there is any, it is a relatively insignificant amount. Ony the BCS schools profit from bowls.

Bennett ain't goin nowhere, unless he gets offered a better job.

Actually so far the TEAM has shown a lot of improvement, and they
have the ability to knock off UH, and UTEP. See win over TCU.

Copeland can't afford an NCAA top 10 track team, so I see NO chance at
buying off Bennett's contract.

In addition to going 3-8, how about the worst recruiting position we have been in years. We are fighting Stephen F Austin for recruits. If Copeland stays I will think long and hard about renewing my season tickets.

Well, if in fact YOU are the one paying for season tix instead of your mommy and daddy, then get ready to watch a lot of Big XII action on your [deleted] tube on Saturdays next year--Because I ain't going NOWHERE!!

Oh, and, put it this way...Bennett could lose to UH and UTEP by a combined 100 points, pull his pants down in the middle of Ford and call Turner's mother a wh0re in his post-game online interview, and he'd still be coaching the Red & Blue next year! Cuz, guess WHAT? We don't have the jack to pay somebody the five million bucks it would take to convince him to come into this quicksand and lose his reputation coaching this bunch of yahoos.

"How about Fran?" "How about Neuheisal?" "How about Flanigan?" ...HOW ABOUT BENNETT?

Bennett will be here next year, there is no doubt about that.

Last year, we were horrible. We played in an easier conference and were not competitive in a lot of games.

This year, we play in a better conference, and have been much more competitive.

Next year, I think we have an easier OOC, return a lot of players, and will bring in some JUCOs to replace some of the experienced guys that we lose.

Bennett will be given next year to show continued improvement. This year was a step up in competitiveness. Next year he will be asked to step it up in terms of wins.

If Bennett would really go out onto the 50 yard line drop trou and call Turner's mother a whore on the PA it would be the highlight of my year, I'd be laughing at that until the day I die.

SFA? Nah. The Lumberjacks suck. If SMU is competing with any SLC schools for recruits, it's Texas State - San Marcos (formerly Southwest Texas State) and Northwestern State in Louisiana.
