It's about time our man McMurtray gets some love -- this guy is a machine. 13 in a row? Hitting a career-long for the game-winner? Hell of a job, Chris -- keep it up!

13 in a row sure is hard to argue with, huh?

Lefty came through again .... four for four!

For the record, with his four FGs and four PATs, he moved into a tie (with Arthur Whittington and Brandy Brownlee) for eighth place on the all-time SMU scoring list with 170 career points. Today he passed such SMU notables as Ramon Flanigan, Emmanuel Tolbert, Bobby Wilson, Craig James and Jerry LeVias (with whom he was tied entering the game.

Congratulations, Chris, on a great season!

Chris is now like a machine...hike it and boom, three points. He has had an exceptionally great year. Kudos for all you have done Chris and kudos to your support team members too...it has been an excellent year.

That was quite a turnaround. This kid couldn't hit anything when he started. Nice job!! We will certainly miss him and I am hoping we find a good replacement. The kicking game is VERY IMPORTANT PB.

I'm thinking that signing a kicker and punter might not be a poor use of two scholarships, even in a year when we don't have that many to give.

What about Doak Walker's grandson, Ryan Wolcott. He was 4 star rated by Rivals when he graduated from Highland Park. I thought that he was heir apparent or has everyone forgotten him?

Will backup starter Chris McMurtray.

Freshman (2004): Did not play.

2003: Redshirt

Prep: Comes from outstanding SMU bloodlines as he is the grandson of Mustang legend Doak Walker... First-team All-District 12-4A selection as a punter and placekicker... Also that district's Special Teams Player of the Year... Earned honorable mention All-State honors from the Associated Press... Hit 12-of-14 field goal attempts with a long of 43 and averaged 40 yards per punt as a senior... Led the state's kickers with 101 points as a junior... Selected to the Dallas Morning News All-Area Team as a punter... Invited to play in the Coca-Cola Area All-Star Game... Three-year letterman who scored 263 career points... Booted 30 field goals in his three seasons... Coached in high school by SMU alum Randy Allen... Also lettered in soccer.

Personal: Plans to major in business.

Thanks, ponymom. I was wondering the same thing. Ryan Wolcott is suited up and standing on the sidelines at every game. What gives?

That's called being a backup. Ryan will get his chance next year. Chris ended the year with I believe 17 or 18 straight successful field goals. Why would you use anyone else unless he got injured?
