Winning Cures All!What a change literally one game has made. Hopefully this season will prove to be the energy we need to move forward and start competing again. Just like TCU did in 1998.
We are sub .500 and you would think we were bowl bound. We are going to need to win 7 next year to make it to a bowl. I just hope that people remember next year when we start play again! DBB P.S. Everyone on this baord will remember, but will the other alums and students.
let's hope we have 30,000 show up for each of those home games if we only win 7 games and hope to be bowl eligible (considering the schedule). The bowls will have to be convinced that SMU will bring 10-15,000 fans on the road. Have we EVER done that???
Unless the game is at the Fort Worth Bowl.
If we make it to a bowl and it's not the CUSA Championship winner bowl...that would be the only bowl I could see actually thinking of us seeing as we're in the metroplex. ![]()

or Grape? Full Steam Ahead!
Do you need anymore ice? Let me help you arrange those deck chairs.
Given that the season was still a losing one, it is hard to say that "winning cures all". Where are the conference championships that Jim Copeland and Phil Bennett have said that we should be competing for? As has become the norm on the Hilltop, our football season is over while over in Fort Worth, they are preparing for another bowl game after another 10 win season......will SMU's fortune ever change?
Wow, FrogSnob has uncovered the fact that SMU went 5-6 this year. Congratulations on his flushing-out yet another altogether unknown fact. The master of inane TCU-focused SMU bashing has yet again stated the galactically obvious.
Let's not let the season-ending 3 game wining streak and optimism created thereby distract us from FrogSnob's continuing focus on all things TCU. Let me state the equally galactically obvious for the sake of FrogSnob: SMU has proven its superiority over TCU this year. 9-10-05; SMU 21, TCU 10. You see, speculation is ultimately determined on the field of play. 60 minutes and the best team wins. This year, in spite of TCU's bowl game, SMU has been proven the better team. Live with it as I know it eats at your poor pitiful little purple heart.
We're certainly heading in the right direction. The momentum built in the last three games should carry over into the offseason. We've beaten three bowl eligible teams this year including two the last two weeks. The vast majority of our starters return for next season and we have almost an entire recruiting class from last season that was able to redshirt this season. Additionally, the school has permitted the coaches to recruit JUCOs more extensively for the first time since the the DP. Add these facts to the softer schedule next season and all the ingredients are there for a winning season. Can I guarantee a winning season? Not yet, I've been following this team closely for the past 15 years so I know better. Do I have a sense of optimism about SMU football for the first time in a long time? Absolutely, and I think the way the team finished the season should help boost ticket sales and local interest. We've got a foundation in place, let's see if it's false hope or the start of a turnaround. The coach and team deserve our support right now.
Deep Purple was an alright guy. FrogSnob aka PonySnob is someone else for sure.
he was civil over here at times, but I came across him on other message boards and he had a not so subtle axe to grind about SMU. He was a propaganda machine. Usually regarding realigment back when that was a hot topic on the net. Think he was alright if you want, but he had a definite agenda.
My point is when is our program going to win 10 games a year and go to bowl games? While our players are sitting on their [deleted] for the rest of the fall semester, TCU's players will get to continue to practice and will be playing in another holiday bowl game. When can I as an SMU alum expect my program to have this kind of success? Certainly our end of the year winning streak was a good way to end the season.....but as usual, our season has ENDED. Is it unrealistic to ever expect this on the Hilltop? While, yes, our team was better than TCU's on 9-10-05 what about the rest of the season, outside of the A$M game, where we really playing superior teams to those that we lost to? Remember when Tulane came into Ford and whipped our [deleted]? How many winning seasons have we had since 1989?
ponysnob: totally been exposed as tcu troll as he mentions tcu in every post. not very smart. repeats. skip him.
jtstang: real SMU fan worth listening to. (sorry dude, just had to throw you in there as the alternative if you want a 'what's wrong with our program perspective'.)
The only reason that I mention TCU is that while there program is a regular in the top 25, wins 10 games a year, and goes to bowl games, our program can't even have a more than one winning season in 16 years. If they can enjoy success with that miserable campus that they have, there is ZERO reason that SMU cannot do the same.
see?
