After reading all about Stafford from Highland Park. I don't think anyone has seen Mallet from Texarkana High. I saw both this year and must saw Mallet is going to be the best to come out of Texas next year in a long time. Also Derke Robinson from Hebron committed now to Arizona. He seemed like a guy SMU could have grabbed. Anyone know if we tried to grab him? Any new word on our recruiting class and studs coming up next year that we are going to get

Mallett is already considered one of the nation’s top QBs in the 07 class and all the usual suspects are after him. If he is even close to as good as Stafford, then he will be a player. Stafford is the best pocket-passing high school QB I’ve ever seen. He’s very worthy of all the hype.

BTW, if you want to see two great high school QBs go head-to-head, HP plays Stephenville at 2p Saturday in Denton. Stephenville's QB, Jevan Snead originally committed to Florida but switched to UT a few weeks ago.

Mallett actually lives in Arkansas, but plays in Texas. Weird. Does it for competitive reasons. Even stranger is that Arkansas has also produced, arguably, the top QB this year as well in Mitch Mustain.

mallett will be one of the top 3 QB's next year. Seems like the #1 spot is already taken by Jimmy Clausen. Haven't seem anyone as hyped as he is since Ron Powlus.

Is that (Mallet) the guy who's enormous, like 6'6, 240 or something?

And we did try on Robinson. I heard academics (grades? allowable classes) were a big issue. Whether or not he showed interest in us, I don't know.

Mallet is 6'6'' 230lbs

And is already either the #1 or #2 QB prospect for the class of 2007

Isn't it Derke Robertson-anyway he's the son of UT player from the 1970s- is a 4 star Texas Top 50 recruit who never gave us a look. Reports are that Mack Brown lived up to his promise to pull offers from players who commit but visit elsewhere. His scholarship offer was pulled as reportedly was Emmanual Moody's from Coppell. He's pulled several offers over the years-but hey if you are committed to a school then why should a school be committed to you.

Interesting that you bring that up, Stallion. I've read differing reports (on Moody, I mean, not Robertson.) In some places, it's been reported that he bailed out on UT and THEN resumed the process of looking around, other places have reported that he wanted to basically enjoy a free trip to some fun schools (USC, Miami .... places like that) and Mack got hacked and told him what he could do with his UT offer. Hard to know which is true, or if it was somewhere in between.

Must be nice to have the luxury of being able to pull a 4 or 5 star recruits scholarship offer and know that you have two or three more that are climbing all over themselves for you to look at them.

On this one Brown and UT fans have some credibility when they say the offer was pulled. Mack does it almost every year to recruits who visit other schools. He tells them right up front that a commitment is a two way street. I have no problem with that as long as he doesn't pull an offer from a player who does not look around.
