Dat Nguyen - addition to PB's staff?

Dat's retiring from the Cowboys b/c of injuries. Hadn't seen any mention here about the possiblity of Phil adding him in some sort of consulting/advisory/recruiting/LBcoach/assistant type roll. If you aren't aware, Dat is like a son to Bennett (consequently, he was the last person to speak to Phil's wife before she passed away).
I got to know him a couple years back when he was injured during the season (broken leg i believe) and he brought the Bennett kids to the SMU games and sat in front of me. Really genuine guy with an excellent eye for recognizing plays as they develop.
Since PB has announced that he won't make any changes, i'm assuming he means no one is being fired or demoted, but he could always add someone. Dat's young (31 or 32 i think), has recent NFL success which impresses high school kids, and has always been a hard worker to overcome hurdles in life from moving from Vietnam to Rockport to being of Asian decent in an American dominated game (other than kickers). If anyone can tell a young athlete about being up against a challenge in trying to make it to the NFL, it's Dat.
Aside from the fact he's an aggie (so is Phil) he's an all around great person with an excellent understanding of the game.
thoughts?

I thought the same thing. Maybe if he still has an itch for football, we can suit him up at linebacker next year. CUSA is not as rough as the NFL by any means. Seriously, maybe he could be involved in some way. I doubt money is an immediate issue for him.

didn't even think to mention that, and only an idiot would work for nothing, but because of his relationship w/ bennett, he might join the staff for a limited salary.
that is unless he goes back to Rockport to run WhoDat (his restaurant/bar) but i don't imagine that happening.

Is that official? I thought that was just "a possibility" at this point.

i saw the announcement about changes in the DMN 'notebook' for SMU...

That's a great idea. Today's HS players know all about him, and might remember his years in aggietown even better than his pro career.

PB Mustache, excellent idea.
Very logical.
Let's hope it pans out.
Also, do you know if there's any truth to the rumor that Brent Cortez (Head Coach of Puerto Vallarta Prep, Southern Mexico American Football Champs 2000, 2002, 2004-05) is in the running for being named an assistant in quality control on the Hilltop?
That's the one burning up talk radio down here in the Bayou City.

Bennett may not be planning any changes, but some other coach may come calling on some of these assistants. People come and go. Don't know that we have any asistants in "high demand" though.

Personally, I like the idea of adding Dat Nguyen to the staff.
Is there an NCAA limit on how many assistant coaches you can have? I assume there is, or schools with no financial limits (Texas, Notre Dame, etc.) would have an assistant for each player.

Ponypride,
NCAA limits football to one head coach, nine assistants, two graduate assistants to be employed.

He would make a hell of a Graduate Assistant.
