I wonder who's next on the list for K-State :?:

uh oh. Funny what a couple of weeks does, but I would really like to see what Bennett can do with a little positive momentum here.

I've been a Bennett critic, but he's shut me up over the last few weeks. That said, he's hardly indispensable. I wouldn't mind a fresh face, but can't imagine the KSU movers and shakers can be sold on his SMU record, despite the exceedingly recent and modest positive "trend".

Anybody know what the K-State version of Ponyfans.com is?

The only thing I could find is this:

the big problem if Bennett were to leave is that SMU is sitting on 2 commitments and intending to rely on JUCO recruits to fill important holes for next year. We are a little more than about 2 weeks until JUCO signing date and would like miss out on any chance to plug those holes with immediate help.

Unless we have a name coach lined up at a level high enough to draw immediate attention from all recruits (and we have not been able to do that forever) I want Bennett to stay. Starting over would be extremely difficult at this point. Stallion's point is very big not to mention the whole process of rebuilding a program from scratch, new schemes, etc. all of which take time to establish. Bennett has taken a year longer to get where he is than I wanted and I think that was due to his newness to head coaching and the lack of a offensive coordinator in year one. Completely a wasted year other than some decent recruits. I dread the starting over syndrome. If he goes, Nuhiesel (sp?) is about the only one I could think of that might come and would make enough of a splash to keep the momentum going.

"Jim Leavitt of USF got a 7 year contract extension worth $1 mill per year. The question is that enough to keep him at USF. The Scoop says "YES." Look for Phil Bennett to be the name thrown around at KSU, especially after the great GL Stand they had at SMU this year (and remember, they were the only team to beat TCU!)"

COPELAND!!!!! YOU DOPE!!!

You better start the coaching search NOW rather than be caught pulling your pud in a week or two.

I gotta BAD feeling that Bennett is gone. :(

That fan forum I posted supposedly links to a Manhattan Mercury news article that says Bennett already talked to KSU. Didn't read the article though, it requires some kind of registration BS.

KState might hire an assistant from UVA? Thats downright Copelandesque. Maybe our man Copeland gave them the name of the UVA guy to throw em off the scent of Bennett.

Who can blame Leavitt, USF could be real good the next few years in the Big East. K-State is a good gig, but it is not one that is impossible to turn down (Ohio State, Mich., UT, UGA). He will probably get a BCS bid the next few years.

With these last season wins, I think KSU could possibly sell Bennett to their alums (esp. with Snyder's endoresement, how can they argue with him?).

Would I blame Bennett for taking the job? Short Answer (yes). I want to see him stick to his word, and right this ship before looking elsewhere. We sat through him learning to be a head coach, now at least give us some good years.

Knowing Copeland, the search would be a disaster and we would be back in the Kenneth Pye era.
