IF Bennett were to take the KSU job, what would be the thoughts of our board experts on Ken Hatfield as a replacement?

As an added statement, please do not just judge him on just Rice and their limited recruiting guidelines. Check out his records at Arkansas, Clemson, and the Air Force Academy. He would actually have less recruiting limitations here than at Rice if I am not mistaken.

great guy, but no way. Just the idea of taking Rice's leftovers makes it a non starter. Not to mention his age and quirky offense. Same goes for Fisher DeBerry if they run him off at Air Force for his goofy comments.

i like hatfield & no doubt he's a good coach -
ordinarily i would want him, however -
his offenses lack imagination & he wont change it / he stuck with a losing formation that defenses easily contained -
i believe that is what got him in trouble @ rice about -

When anybody mentions age, please keep the same thoughts when mentioning Slocum.

How about GUSH? How about Burns? How about one of THEM??? Huh?? IF, IF, IF, IF...Coach Bennett is not going anywhere...he TOLD me so, OK?!?! But even if he did, don't you THINK the same men who accomplished our 5-win goal with their SUPERB offensive and defensive schemes should continue with the COMMITMENT??? Well, don't YOU?
PASS THE DONUTS!!!!

Most boring offenses in the world. However, at Rice and Air Force I think he was limited in the type of athletes he could get and that is the basis for his offensive scheme. Even at Arkansas he was very conservative, but he was also very successful. Arkansas showed he has the ability to recruit and to win. I would not have any hesitation for him (again if Bennett were to leave) except for his age. Hopefully he will find a place to land where he can pasture out his years. Or he might just retire from it all.

Bennett has recruited for a more balanced offense than Hatfield runs. Bring Hatfield in, unless his changes offenses, would put the program back another 4 years. Hatfield would have to recruit kids that could run the option game as our current talent is for a more wide-open offense. We have waited too long to put into place another 4 year program to develop a winning season. Based on that, I would not prefer to see Hatfield (even though I have great respect and admiration for Ken) at SMU after Bennett.

Funny you should say that Ponyte. I was thinking just the opposite. With our current personnel I think we could, if called upon, convert fairly well to an option format. We have a fairly decent stable of quick, strong RBs, and a couple of QBs that should be able to handle that well. That is specifically why I might not be totally against a Hatfield hire if Bennett were to leave. The transition may be less drastic than if some other coach were brought in to overhaul the program. That said, I am not nor have I ever played an offensive CO on TV. And the discussion on having to "retool" no matter who would come in is why I would prefer Bennett to remain at this time.
