ESPN reports K-State decision is made

Postby Pony4Life » Sat Dec 03, 2005 11:40 am

Chris Fowler just said on GameDay that Kansas State will hire Virginia assistant Ron Prince as its new head coach.
Thank goodness.

It looks like K-State is gonna make a bad hire. UVA isn't even very good. I guess the sleaze factory that is Colorado football is gonna dominate for the next few years in the Big 12 North.

Good. As long as Bennett gives us a few winning years I'm happy.

I think any Big 12 job + Ark. & LSU.

He would definitely take jobs like Ok. State, Tech or Missouri.

no shot at Bennett but he would take any BCS job. No use getting all worked up about it like TCU fans do. Now if the NCAA had a system that allowed all teams to compete for the NC then things might be somewhat different but I doubt it. Its part the the injury that non-BCS schools suffer from this entire corrupt system. Right now the Oregon Ducks are about to get jobbed by Notre Dame. I really don't understand why the BCS gets so much support from those second rung teams like Tech, Oregon, Oklahoma St, Mississippi, Virgina who will never have a chance to play in a BCS Bowl. The BCS conferences would still get 80% of the post season revenue but these other schools would have a much better chance of havoing a great year but then not het passed over by a Notre Dame or UT who get the most support from the BCS.

Well the decision also clears the decks of any noise that other teams recruiters may have tried to make against SMU, implying that our coach may be leaving. 8)

Good point. I would think it's hard (although, obviously, not impossible) to recruit against the Ponies. Coaches from other teams (especially those in-state) can't say they beat SMU, can't say SMU's not getting better, can't say SMU doesn't have a bunch of starters coming back next year, can't say we have a ridiculous schedule that's sending us to places that are too far to drive to for your parents (like, say, San Diego and Provo) .... might be why there are some pretty solid players giving us a look right now.

Stallion, Interesting point! There is no question that non-BCS schools, especially private ones, are second class citzens. The BCS conferences make no apologies for the benefits they control. It is called the Golden Rule.

Your conclusion that some BCS schoools are hurt is interesting, despite their dependence on the opium of the BCS revenue for members in these conferences. And, the whole congressional investigation bothers me because they don't belong in the discussion and mandates tend to back-fire.

Question then is, who can confront and legitimately challenge this cartel? As an historic sunshiner and 'naive' one, my loyalities tend toward all the private schools, the service academies and all the annual underdogs of the world.

Doing it right, shouldn't be sacrifice at the alter of sponsors, national media and the top 25 programs. Besides complaining, what are the real options to challenge the Evil Empire?

Quite simply, an "equal" system is an illusion. Why? Become some schools have such huge natural advantages (location, money, tradition) that a "level" playing field is impossible. In other words, Kansas will never be UT.

Stallion, the key is to be in a conference with the big-boys. I am from Wisconsin. Prior to Alvarez, people thought the Wisconsin had no shot at ever getting to the Rose Bowl. When Michigan, Ohio St., and Penn State have down years, Wisconsin has a shot.

"I really don't understand why the BCS gets so much support from those second rung teams like Tech, Oregon, Oklahoma St, Mississippi, Virgina who will never have a chance to play in a BCS Bowl." Why don't they join CUSA? The answer seems obvious. They do have a shot, SMU does not because of our conference.

qwaaahh qwaaahh says Oregon...

Postby DomerPony » Mon Dec 05, 2005 6:07 pm

USC 34 @Notre Dame 31
game summary: USC scores on final play, Leinert one yard run with a push from Bush

USC 45 @Oregon 13
game summary: USC reels off 45 straight points

Against common opponent USC, Oregon had their chance, they wet themselves. Notre Dame fell one play shy of facing Texas in the Rose Bowl.

For what it is worth, Phil Bennett voted Notre Dame 4'th in his final coaches poll ballot. He voted Oregon 15'th. Bennett calls 'em as he see 'em.
