commitments

Postby drummer » Sat Dec 03, 2005 5:24 pm

A month ago I was on the same wave as just about everyone else
when asking how can we only have two commitments while other
schools seem to be way ahead of us.HOWEVER,MY thinking has changed
since we won our last 3 games while getting the attention of some
pretty good jc recruits and turning some heads of some high school kids
which would not take a serious look at SMU BEFORE.WITH our coaches
now out on the recruiting trail I feel the momentum we have and with
15 or so schlorships still available gives as a great opportunity to have
strong finish to recruiting and will help us move to the next level.

The biggest problem with late momentum is that 70/80 of top 100 in Texas have already verbally committed. We can't base a program on 2nd tier players and those that we can convince to change their verbals.

That said, PB get out there and sell the program. Wrapping up with 3 wins is a great story to sell! Besides we are the only Div 1A II state champs in Texas...so sell it PB

Agreed. Those were big wins, but kids aren't gonna be changing Big 12 commitments because we beat Rice. I am not hatin', but it is simply the truth.

As sorry as most of the Big Twelve teams looked this year, I am not so sure! To a kid from Texas I am not sure all of those poor teams outside of Texas continue to have that appeal...we need to encourage them to re-visit their campus choices this weekend after the cold front moves through some of those great college towns in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Colorado and then drop-by Dallas for a change in heart and weather...at least I can dream!

They can play in big bowl games and have all their games on TV. It is the system. It sucks, but it is the system for now.

Let's hope UH takes Kansas to the woodshed, and TCU whups Iowa State, UTEP slaughters the MAC team, and of course Tulsa gives Fresno State, a big old strawberry. Then we'll look like we're a program worthy of some love.
