Is the SMU Football "stat pack" wrong?

Over and over again, at the end of the season - we heard the following refrain from many many media outlets - that our 5-6 record was the most wins since 1997. But in reality we went 5-7 in '98.

So my question is, again, with all these media outlets spewing the same "largest win total" stuff - was this an internal error at the athletic department?

I think the quote could have been that season SMU had "the best winning percentage since 1997." But not, however, the most wins.

Just thought I would bring this up for debate.

We can not have an "inning" percentage since we dropped baseball years ago. :D

The majority of the games in 1998 (I think 10 or so) don't count because we used an ineligible player so technically we didn't pay those games.

The media guide shows the "official" record in 1998 is/was 1-1.

The games were played - we won 5 games. I could care less if they didn't "count".

sorry, typing too fast before a final...didn't play those games, although I think the reason the guy was ineligible was because one of the assistant coaches paid somebody else to take his ACT or SAT or something
