SMU's Jessie Henderson named to freshman All-America team

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU standout Jessie Henderson has been named to the 2005 CollegeFootballNews.com Freshman All-America Team, the outlet announced this week.

Henderson, a Paris, Texas, native, was a third-team pick as kick returner after leading Conference USA and ranking 13th in the NCAA with a 28.17 ypr average this season. Henderson returned a kick 88 yards for a TD against Tulane and recorded 179 yards on just four returns against the Green Wave - the third-best single-game effort in SMU history. His 648 KOR yards this year is fifth best all-time at SMU in a single season. Late in the season, he posted a 32-yard return to help set up a game-winning field goal at Houston after the Cougars had scored to tie the game
with just 2:07 remaining.

Did anyone realize that UCF had two players on the teams? These guys must be recruiting well. They may be near the top of CUSA for some time to come.

Returning kicks is a very hazardous way to make your mark -- with Henderson's wheels, he's always a threat to bust one, but with his size, he's always a risk to get hurt, too. This is a tough man, and the accolades are very well deserved.
Best thing about it: THREE MORE YEARS.
