It always goes the wrong guy.

Didn't it used to be presented in Dallas? What is the deal?

...after they gave the Doak Walker award to the back from Tech who never attended class, etc...award sort of lost some of it's shine, in my eyes...ALWAYS hoped they would make palying ability equal to community status, ie: good guy or not...DeAngelo was certainly deserving...don't know much about Bush, other than he is one heck of a back.....Long LIve the Doaker.

...one thing that is seldom mentioned when citing Doak Walker's statistics is the fact that he (and the rest of the team) played both ways and on special teams. Although the subs did play, the starters might never come off the field in a tight game.

Yup -- Byron Hanspard got it, and do I remember correctly that Trevor Cobb of Rice got it, too?

I'm OK with Bush getting it this year, and I would have been OK with Williams, too. They both had sensational years this year.

The Doak is great - and if you want to complain about who won it...write to pretty much any sportscaster(i.e. ESPN) or sports columnist at any newspaper cause they are the ones that vote. I know cause I work there.

You work at ESPN? Doing what?
Or do you work at a paper? Which one?

I wish I could say I was cool enough to work at ESPN....no I'm a student at SMU and I work in the Athletic Forum office which does the Doak Walker award.

Then you're cooler than the folks at ESPN.
Keep up the good work.

Hey don't forget that Ricky "ganja man" Williams won the award, too and Doak liked him.

Wasn't Bam Morris the first "Ganja Man" to win the award? Whatever happened to that guy?

Where can I get a video/DVD of old film footage of Doak Walker?

My 12-year old stepdaughter has been perusing my autographed copy of "Doak Walker, More Than A Hero" and is fascinated with him! Of course, her generation is very 'visual'. Looking at black & white photos doesn't do justice to the legend.

Does anyone know where I can obtain a video/DVD of Doak Walker's famous feats at SMU?

I'm not sure if they/we have one...but you could try calling the Athletic Forum/Tate Lecture series office. If they don't have it - they might be able to help you find it.
