HP up 42-0 at halftime over Marshall. Marshall has -6 yards offense. Holy smokes!

Anyone else think it's just a little disconcerting that HP has a strong state title team and nary a member of that team will be playing for SMU next year?

CELINA wins 35-7 and is on its way to another state championship game for 2A

A win next week will be their 6th state championship and 5 in the last 10 years!!!!!

Why doesn't SMU go up Preston Road 40 miles and do a little small-town recruiting?

Dallas area teams have already won one of the 5A crowns, one of the 4A crowns and are in the finals for the other 5A and 4A crowns as well as the 2A crown with Celina-how did Gainesville do in 3A? Pretty dominating.

I was incorrect earlier...from the DMN:

Celina is aiming for its seventh state championship, and its first since 2001 when it won the last of four straight. A seventh title would tie Brownwood and Plano for the most in state history.

This would be 7, not 6

Final score

Highland Park Scots 59
Marshall Mavericks 0

One word for what the Scots did today: DOMINATE!

(Hey, OC Mustang...what the heck happened to the Mavericks? )

On another note, the Hutto Hustlin' Hippos play Tatum next weekend for the state title in 3A Division II !

Wow. I have NEVER seen Marshall play like that. Marshall came out totally flat and Highland Park had a nearly perfect game.

Congrats to Highland Park. You guys no doubt deserved it this year.

Three notes,
1) This is the biggest blow out in an 11-Man State Championship.
2) This was Marshall's worst loss since 1971 when they lost 49-0 to Lufkin.
3) This was Marshall's second worst loss in program history. The worst was an 1919, 87-0 Loss to Waco (which was two games after beating someone 77-0 LOL!)

Marshall got spanked...it was utter and total domination from the ground up. The DMN suggested that Stafford really didn't have a great day. Well, that's because Marshall's secondary might have been the only part of the team to really show up (one pic, I believe).

My hat's off to a truly outstanding performance by HP. Marshall got taken to the proverbial woodshed. If Marshall had even put of half the points HP did, I could buy the idea that HP was just the better team. This was ridiculous. 59-0??? That means that a)HP was indeed the better of the two teams by a real long way and b) Marshall must've collectively felt that at the outset, and must've just self-destructed.

Coach Bennett, I am sure, was especially interested in the game, as he has roots both places. I sure wish Stafford, and for that matter, HP's entire line, would show up to SMU. I'd still take Marshall's linebackers, but from what I hear, HP had a defensive unit that just performed marvelously.

Wow.

BTW, my obligatory cyber flogging thread is open on the General forum. I deserve any grief I get. Geez, what a drubbin'!

Parade and copies of the game

Postby HPPony » Thu Dec 15, 2005 11:30 am

Here is some good information about obtaining copies of the Scots' state championship game vs. Marshall and the upcoming parade. This was sent by email to parents in the district this week:

The City of University Park & Town of Highland Park are planning a parade to celebrate the football & tennis team state championships at 10:30 a.m. Saturday! For more details, click here to read the announcement: http://www.uptexas.org/index.cfm?FuseAc ... icleID=257

Replays of the game are airing on Channel 16 at 2 p.m. every day and at 7 p.m. every evening except Monday and Thursday. You can also view the game 24 hours a day by clicking on the video replay here: http://www.hpisd.org/contents2.asp?id=49

Copies of the game may be purchased at http://www.bearwirevideo.com.
