Moving the Red River Classic Would Help SMUI think I am speaking for a lot of folks on this board when I say that I am disappointed with the level of media coverage of SMU football. I think moving OU-UT would reduce the year long coverage of UT in the DMN and other local media outlets.
1) As the site of the game, Dallas is somehow involved with the Big 12 programs. After this game leaves the area, DFW has no connection with the Big 12 2) We could take over the Saturday and begin to play TCU at the Cotton Bowl. 3) Media coverage of UT would almost certainly go down. Dallas would properly be thought of as SMU country. So, I plead with OU and UT to demand to play these games in their home stadiums. Willis to slot receiver!
I disagree with your logic, but I posted on the blog, this may happen anyway.
OU/UT could be played in Buenos Aires and it still would get huge coverage from the DMN. They cover it because of the schools involved, not the location of the game.
"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
... "Hit it."
I do not concede this point. If the game was not in Dallas, it would only receive a little more coverage in the DMN than Ohio St./Michigan or Miami/FSU. Willis to slot receiver!
If the Dallas loses the Texas-OU game, then SMU should try to line up an occasional game with either Texas, Texas A&M, or OU at the Cotton Bowl.
Re: Moving the Red River Classic Would Help SMU
The TCU - SMU game is better as a home-and-home series...neither school sells out their stadium for the game....the crowds look better at Ford or Amon Carter than the Cotton Bowl.
Wasn't there an article a little bit ago that said if Texas/OU moved from the Cotton Bowl that A&M/Tech's game would move there?

I'm all for the idea. The fewer Sooners and Longhorns we have in Dallas, the better all our lives will be. They should stay in Norman or Austin, with the rest of the public school kids.
The Cotton Bowl would look a lot better 50% red and 50% purple for the Iron Skillet game anyway! I'm hopeful that once the Bush Library is located at SMU, the university will finally have the pull with the city of Dallas to rectify the Cotton Bowl situation.
We need to get those public schoolers out of our territory!! Willis to slot receiver!
Moving the Red River Shootout from Dallas isnt going to suddenly transform SMU into Dallas' team or anything...I'm sure that Texas/OU alums still vastly outnumber SMU alums in the metroplex...but putting together some winning teams certainly wouldnt hurt our cause.
No, we need them real, real bad. I see why you were frightened. Willis to slot receiver!
