Interesting graphic they have up on the school's athletic site:

Picture of Dez Willingham, with a graphic about "come out and watch the Ponies play Froggie High and Oklahoma while you're on your holiday vacation" .... basically.

No mention of Wednesday's home game against Harvard. Perhaps that game is sold out?

Very curious.

The marketing dept. just does not get it. At the last home game I asked a staff member how ticket sells for OU was going, and he said since moving the game up a day, sales had really picked up. I also asked how the TCU game was selling and was told not very well. His quote was, we may have to do something to get people interested. I don't want to sound negative but the administration doesn't have a clue about marketing.

and that's your proof? Good thing you aren't a judge.

TCU sux, and students are a good core of the attendance at Basketball games (they are ON BREAK, by the way).

Today I had a friend say he called the ticket office all day, and there was no answer. He was trying to buy tickets for the OU game.

PhirePhil... TCU sux... cute. To say that students are the core of basketball attendance proves that you have never attended a game at Moody Coliseum.

It's a struggle to get people out the night before New Years eve and on a friday at 8:30pm regardless. If you want to blame something or someone, at least be cognizant of the upcoming holidays and people's inclination to do other things on a friday night.

Hey PPB I have been a season ticket holder for both football and basketball since 1979. I think I have seen enough SMU games to be able to say that our marketing dept. and student body is the worst that I have ever seen. So yes I think that I qualify as a judge on this subject. Just call me judge buckethead.

My relationship with SMU is only 11 years old, but in that time span I can truthfully say that the man in charge of marketing is heads and shoulders above the previous two people in his position. And I knew and liked those previous two people and mean no offense to them. But it's night and day better, from a personnel standpoint, than in previous years.

As far as the student body, they seem as apathetic as always, although there were certainly more students during the sasser years and the height of the Mustang Maniacs. But I am biased about those years...

Eddie P: Of what significance is "the night before New Year's Eve"? Maybe I've been out of the loop too long, but December 30 is just another day. Even if it was Dec. 31, one could go to a game and then party 'til the cows come home. And, luckily, I have not yet reached the age where an 8:30 p.m. tip-off totally wrecks my routine. (Just don't take your Milk of Magnesia at the usual time) The folks who should be filling our thousands of empty seats just have too many excuses to be labeled "fans".

When last I lived in Dallas, I recall being impressed with the showing of the students at the time when I attended an SMU-TCU game broadcast at 10pm on ESPN. It was when TCU was pretty good, still coached by Tubbs...Lee Nailon had been in trouble, and some SMU students had couches around the court...some signs that said "Texas Criminal University" etc. Haven't seen anything to that effect on AllAccess since then.

What was worse was a couple of years ago SMU played UTPA on S. Padre. My wife and I stayed out on the island and I (foolishly) wondered to her whether there was a Mustang Club get-together out there. Later that night imagine my surprise as my wife, kid and me made up the three-person SMU contingent at the game. Illinois, meanwhile, brought a couple thousand down to the island this thanksgiving for a similar game.
