Secondary

The top four safeties are Ruben Moodley, Alvin Nnabuife, Rico Harris and Jamie Harper.

Some questions:

What happened to Leroy Price? Has he fallen off that far, or is Jamey Harper that good that he jumped ahead of him as a true freshman?

Same question: What happened to Matt Rushbrook?

Rolando Humphrey is listed at second-team CB. The guy is a freshman and he's MAYBE 5-foot-9. Isn't that risky? (Marcus Malonson did it, but that was when the whole team was young.)

As for the Price situation, he plays strong saftey, so he is actually third string behind
Nnabuife and Harris. We have a lot of depth in that position. Harper beat out Brent Briggs and Godfrey for the backup FS spot, who werent exactly world beaters IMHO...

For Rushbrook, keep in mind that he was moved from saftey to corner, and I don't know if he has played that much corner in the past. I think he was fighting with Orr to back up K Garrett, and Orr beat him out because he knows the position better. The real surprise to me was that Humphrey beat out Medlock for the other backup CB spot. I think we have some talented depth at CB, which makes it even more impressive that Humphrey won a second string spot. Next year, you would think that Robert Gilmore will be pushing for playing time as well. I think that there is actually a chance that, as great as KG is, we won't miss him next year after he graduates...

I would hold off on praising the freshmen until they see real game time. Neither Harper or Humphrey were very impressive in the contact scrimmage. Both Briggs and Rushbrook will be playing by mid season or sooner. Godfrey has been moved to strong safety where he'll share back-up with Harris. One should keep their comments to fact, not observations such as to someone being a "world beater" or not.

I forgot about Robert Gilmore. Everything I've heard and read is that he's a top-shelf DB. He could end up being the steal of the class this year.

I saw in the Morning News that Bennett said KG had had a great camp, but that Jonas "needs to get better." Does anyone know what area he needs to get better in, in Coach Bennett's opinion?
