Old article, but do any of you remember this story ?

First of all, I went to High School with Steve Mailin. He was the Deep Snapper on our football team. I'm not saying I believe it, but I never heard some of these stories till I read the Article.

I don't care if I am doing a "Dan Rather", I don't care if the article is true or legit. I want Copeland gone.

From now on, "Jimmy The Gimp" will be his name.

Where is Marcellus Wallace when one needs him?

Hey Webmaster, you should tell me now if I hafta stop.
I will keep it PG-13, but it won't be any hallmark card.
Don't want to go too far out of bounds, though. Please advise....

'Cause I think Steve Malin and "Jimmy The Gimp" can go buggeroff.

Maybe Mr. Wallace will send the Wolf to help you with your problem...

I heard Malin got jipped in the deal - Copeland got off the hook - this got swiped under the rug very quickly.

Copeland's [deleted] should have been fired then and it should be fired now. Not for those allegations but for failing to lead the football and basketball teams to successful seasons during his tenure. He also should be fired because his money raising skills are horrible. Bring in a new athletic director with a new spirit to raise the money needed to improve facilities and increase support for the teams.

Either this is pure fiction or the NCAA Committee of Infractions did not discover these "violations". Why, because they never occurred. What violations did Malin commit were academic fraud (having another student take the ACT for a recruit), illegal visit to a recruit (played pick up basketball), illegal inducement (flew to SMU for unofficial visit), illegal inducement (took recruit out for a burger), and other similar petty things. There were no cars. Here is the NCAA report. The story cited here is utter nonsense. Copeland would not want to get rid of football at SMU. If another death penalty was levied, he would have been fired and never found another job in sports again.

I don't know about the authenticity of the other threads.

Here is the only web page I could find regarding "SMU, academic fraud, facts ncaa". It was about the '97-98 school year:
