While cruising the internet highway this afternoon, I came upon this. I guess there was a certain amount of pride by the locals not only his HS accomplishments, but what he accomplished in college (second paragraph). Can't believe that any journalist would put this in an obit.

If this newspaper when talking about David Stanley was going to re-hash the SMU scandal why didnt they tell the whole story?

Why did this newspaper article leave out the part that David Stanley was a "coke-head' and took $25,000 from Belo (aka Longhorn U) to spill the beans on SMU?

Why did this newspaper article not mention that David Stanley and his Mom tried to embezzle money out of SMU Boosters to keep quiet? Why did this article not mention David Stanley was treated in a drug re-hab for his nose candy habits?

Too much blow? A Len Bias-style heart attack, perhaps?

It also failed to mention, SMU was punished for paying for his drug treatment.

The C in NCAA stands for corrupt.

In 1975 or so while reading the Daily Campus at lunch in the SMU
cafeteria about the upcoming SEVERE SANCTIONS about to be levied
against SMU for paying a five spot for a tackle on a punt return, I
figured out that the NCAA was REALLY corrupt. I decided then, and there
that the NCAA stood for National Corrupt A$$-hole Athletics.

During the late 60s, and early 70s, among my parent's best friends were
the parents of a fairly famous SWC QB. His little brother, an average HS
starter, got a scholarship too to the same school, but rode the bench in
college until he flunked out I think.

My family heard a lot of stories of what went on in the late 60s, and
early 70s, and my brother started at tight end for a 10-1 #2 state ranked
4A now 5A team in 72. He was recruited by UNT, and the Naval
Academy.

It's fun to watch on Saturdays, but it's really BS. Its fun because for the
past 15/16 years we're the mostly good guys trying to beat the evil
empire BCS.
