Texas Linebackers

Postby Stallion » Thu Jan 05, 2006 1:22 am

did they make a tackle all nite? I guess Killebrew and Harris had cramps but they were awful. I had a feeling they were the weak link in addition to lack of experience at the skill positions but I was shocked at how bad they were. I felt the Texas DLM actually stood their ground all nite long but there was nobody to fill the gaps. Am I the only one who noticed this.

Killebrew is an idiot. I don't care what kind of potential he may have, his foolish play was almost enough to keep Texas from winning. I haven't watched too many UT games this year, but their defensive line is ridiculous and the secondary is even more ridiculous. Par play out of the linebackers wins them national championships.

All that aside, Vince Young is changing the game of football every time he walks on the field. I have watched and played football for a long time and I have yet to see a young man so absolutely in tune with himself and stay so calm every snap. He may not have won the Heisman but he proved tonight that he is the most important player in the game. Texas is average without him.

So who stopped White on the 4th and 1 in the first and 4th and 2 in the fourth? (serious question) The safties?

That was a stupid call. Should have punted. Probably cost USC the game.

Having seen sc play a bunch, that was one of the worst calls they made all season. Totally [deleted]. Who stopped the play? An excellent movement by the ut defensive tackles and ends. Just when sc's o-line looked like they finally were going to push around the ut d-line, they managed to hang tough.

As stallion noted, this was one heck of a game. Young was outstanding, but 'sc could've done better. I still am amazed how they constantly failed to keep the adjustemnts to contain young, but that really showed the solid play of the ut o-line. You just know every nfl team was drooling over the prospects of both o-lines.

yes peruna, it is all 20-20 at this point, but as the play was about to unfold, it was pretty obvious what ws going on, and sc was not getting set. white had been running tough, but i kept thinking that it was a wrong play to run. just like i wondered why it took sc so long to get the ball into byrd's hands, who is one of the toughest te's playing. and you don't leave bush on the sideline at a moment such as that.

after, sc imploded and ut rules the day. if young continues his way, he'll make vick look like an older vince young copy.

I thought the call to go for it was spot on considering the situation. White hadn't been stopped for a loss all night. If he makes the push the game ends and you win. If not, well didnt' seem to matter if UT started at the 1 or the 40, USC couldn't stop UTs O.

Just a side note, considering that a lot of pregame hype was going on about how UT was very very good at blocking punts and SC was horrible at blocking for their punter...no guarantee that SC gets that punt off anyways.

I thought it was a good call. If that 4th down had been converted, game over USC wins. It made perfect sense at the time by giving it to a fantastic inside runner for 2 yards with the blocking of a very good o-line. I am simpy amazed at the second guessing of this call.

All I asked was who tackled White? Was it the d-line, a linebacker, safety?

The entire defense bunched up in the middle and penetrated on the snap. White simply ducked his head, ran into a pile of humans, and slid to the ground. I have no problem with the call. The problem I saw as many have pointed out was the personnel. With Bush on the side line and the offense jammed tight, about the only option was run right up the middle. A play action could have worked but still risky. Put Bush in the backfield with White and put him in motion and either a swing pass to Bush or run up the middle. Whichever you pick, the defense has to be set up to defendboth.

They did enough and that's all that matters to me. But, to answer your question, the Texas linebackers accounted for 15 tackles last night. I hope that helps.
