The Texas Longhorns turned in a remarkable performance last night to upset USC and win the national title. Since I don't like UT, I didn't like the outcome. So while I stewed over the game, I had a lot of reactions -- they might or might not be funny, but here they are. So, without further ado, from the Home Office, High on the Hilltop: the top 10 immediate reactions to Texas beating USC:
10. Vince Young's knee was down.
9. The Austin/Dallas Morning News lost any remaining shred of credibility by trumpeting the fact that it won a bet with the Los Angeles Times. D(Doesn't the A/DMN at least claim to be an unbiased source of information anymore?)
8. Rick Barnes' big guys are better-conditioned athletes than Mack Brown's linebackers.
7. Vince Young is crazy if he goes back to school. He runs the risk of injury, he can't get a normal throwing motion in a year, and he will be a game-altering WR in the NFL. He has nothing to gain by coming back .... unless he's actually interested in graduating. His earning power will never be higher than it is right now.
6. Now we're going to have to hear even more people referring to "burnt" as if it's a word.
5. If I see Mack Brown on the other Letterman's TV show, my TV is going out the window.
4. Where would SMU football be if our Charles (ShanDerrick) had stayed healthy?
3. Somewhere, Tom Hicks is cutting a check for another 50,000 seats on that stadium down there.
2. The NCAA tried to limit the number of hangers-on roaming the sideline by insisting sideline credentials only to players, coaches, support staff (i.e. trainers) and five "wild card" passes limited to former players. What was Mack Brown doing there?
And the #1 reaction to Texas beating USC:
1. It's hockey season!
