If Copeland is in fact "retiring" - who might his replacement be? Would Scott Secules get the job given that Big Jim brought him here when he became the AD years ago?

A guy who would do an awesome job is Dave Wollman. He's been successful at everything he's done, he loves the school, and had all kinds of success in fundraising during his days at Stanford.

Copeland's departure will mean nothing if the right successor is not chosen.

We need a bright, enthusiastic, "SUPER SALESMAN" for SMU.

Someone that lives and breathes SMU!

Everybody knows Copeland has not been a "people person".

Big Jim has done some good things, but SMU is capable of so much more.

This decision that sounds like is coming soon is HUGE for our future.

If we pick the right person, we can be where TCU is within 3-5 years.

explain in 50 words or less why Jim Copeland is the difference between TCU's success and SMU's ineptitude over the last 10 years or so. I'm not buying it and don't think it will make a significant difference unless other more relevant changes are made that really separate the SMU and TCU programs.

SMU does need that energetic "super salesman". I would love to see us get the type of guy that can't sleep at night, because of all of the ideas that come into his mind! SMU needs a man that can work with the faculty and administration without rest, until we get the needed changes! I want an AD that has BIG dreams and HIGH aspirations for SMU! I want a guy that is out in the neighborhood right until kickoff, passing out tickets to fill every possible seat!

Scott Secules would be a great hire. The assistants at OU and UT would probably get interviews.

My only hope is that four years from now someone's not posting on this board, "...at least when Copeland was here, we...."

Scott Secules? Sorry. No way. He's a Jim Copeland clone.

SMU needs to go 'outside' to find someone with vision and guts. I pray that the SMU administration makes the right decision that will excite the fans and the athletes in a positive manner.

The only way we get a better AD that will make a difference is if they hire someone of high enough caliber that can say " I will come and take over the job if I can have the following abilities with which to do my job. First .........,etc." And then he would lay out a plan that would allow SMU to compete equally with at least the other schools in our conference in the ability to get kids into school. If we do not get someone that can do that I hope Copeland stays because we have at least made some progress in the past couple of years and seem to be moving forward.

This is what we NEED with 2 additions:

Has to be HONEST. I really wonder if Russ Potts knew what Ron Meyer
was up to during Mustang Mania, and believe he likely did.

Doesn't have a primal need to be commanding officers he personally
hired. Copeland's biggest mistake was firing Tom Rossley after a 5-6 year.
Bennett's 5-6 record in fotball is very similar to what Rossley faced in
his first year under Copeland. Copeland shot first at Rossley, and asked
questions, or learned the hard way later.

Copeland is a consensus builder, a team player and a yes man. He is the type that needs to be at a school that only needs to maintain success. SMU needs someone with vision, sales skillls and will fight for some radical changes. I think most of the recent positive changes have been because of Bennett, not Copeland. More changes are needed to level the playing field
