This is just a thought but I feel former cowboy All pro CHARLIE Waters
would be the perfect fit for the new SMU AD.He is a well respected man
that can sell SMU to Dallas and Dallas to SMU.I also feel he could bring back some of the former players and allumni that we abandoned after
the DP.I saw him him on a sports talk show not long ago and he looked
fit and definetly not his age.

Does he have any AD experience?
I don't think so. We're not in a position to reach for a "he might be great, but we have nothing to base it on" guy. No AD experience, no AD gig.
You're right, he's a great guy, and seems in good health. Not sure that makes him an AD candidate, though.

Last time I saw him talk about it o TV, Charlie still seemed a little bitter he did not get the coahcing gig here. Doubtful he'd want the AD gig, and not sure he'd be qualified for it anyway. WTF does he know about equestrian rules compliance??

That very well might be the first time in the history of the English language that question has been asked.
Nice work, JT.

jt, i think the issue of coaching may be a sore point, but otherwise, he probably has as much experience as Mike Garrett did before becoming associate AD (then AD) at usc.
I think he would probably be smart enough to hire people to help cover the bases.

NoCal, you answered the question yourself. Garrett HAD some experience b/c he was the Associate AD PRIOR to becoming the AD. that allowed him to get a feel for the job and its complexities, what he would do the same, and what he could change for the better, rather than hire someone who has served in no roll related to the position in any form.

When Copeland retires, I would definitely think outside the box on this one. The AD should be the face man (or woman) for the athletic program. Amber Campisi comes to mind. They could hire a ton of assistant AD's to actually do the work. If nothing else, sports writers, bowl committee members, and alums would show up at her press conferences and breakfasts just to gawk. And if there ever was a coaching vacancy there'd be lots of applicants. She's an alum as well. I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. They might push a coach upstairs as well. Rhonda Rhompola perhaps. Maryland did this with Debbi Yow and she has been a dynamite AD. She hired Friegen and Williams. However, you want someone who will be able to effectively promote the program and move it in the right direction.

As a plus, Stallion really likes Waters. Secules wasn't rated high enough on Rivals to be considered.

mustache, garrett was the man that sc wanted even before the promotion. He was brought in to run the show. Even he would be the first to state that the key to his success is his ability and willingness to hire prople to get the job done. Yes, he got some time under his belt, but three years doesn't make a career in running an athletic office of one of the best programs in the country. (And best funded.) And look at the job he's done, compared to the lifer that mcgee was.
if waters is equal in the smarts, i'm sure he could get the job done too.

Charlie would solve all of the lack of Dallas Media problems. Lets go hire an asst. Ad at Minnesota who thinks Dale Hansen used to be in a Boy Band.

If we hired Charlie, I am sure he would figure out a way to get Cliff Harris involved as well.

Yeah, he was in the band where everyone thought he was the girl.

Sounds like he and news anchor Dave Ward (KTRK, Ch. 13, ABC) in Houston need to get together sometime. Ward was arrested wearing a dress...and for public intoxication.
