Randolph Named Rice's Defensive Coordinator

(1/13/06) Alabama defensive ends coach Paul Randolph has been named the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Rice.
Randolph, 39, joins the staff of Todd Graham, who was hired on Jan. 1 to replace the retiring Ken Hatfield.
The Crimson Tide, which beat Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl, led the nation in scoring defense (10.7 points per game) and ranked second behind Virginia Tech in total defense (255.1 yards per game) in 2005. Alabama also ranked second in total defense in 2004.
The Owls went 1-10 last season and ranked 110th in total defense, allowing 454.5 yards per game.
Randolph has also coached at West Virginia, Toledo, Illinois State, Valdosta State and Tennessee-Martin. Randolph and Graham worked together on the defensive staff at West Virginia in 2002 — Graham was the co-defensive coordinator and Randolph coached the defensive line and special teams.
Randolph played 10 seasons in the Canadian Football League, eight with Winnipeg (1988-95). The Blue Bombers won the Grey Cup in 1988 and 1990.
Randolph graduated from Tennessee-Martin with a degree in engineering technology.
