Anyone else find this funny?

Postby giacfsp » Tue Jan 17, 2006 3:16 pm

I'm not saying this is funny solely because I like to make fun of UT (which I do -- sorry LF68). But this guy is the nation's top assistant coach? I can see his coaching technique: "Uh, Vince? Get behind that line that looks like five Sherman tanks, run around for a couple hours if you have to until someone gets open and chuck it .... or turn around and hand it to one of those 64 HS all-americas we've got back there with you."

I'm sure he's a good coach, but the best in the country? If the award had to go to Austin, it should have gone to (DC) Chizik -- he did a hell of a job.

At least they didn't throw it to one of the assistants at Penn State (which I dislike even more than Texas), although the assistants up there deserve more praise for the Nittany Lions' turnaround than so-called coach of the year JoePa does. Anyway ....

Texas' Davis wins 10th Annual Broyles Award

January 17, 2006; Little Rock, Ark. - Officials from The Little Rock Downtown Rotary Club presented University of Texas offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Greg Davis with the 10th Annual Frank Broyles Award during a luncheon at the Doubletree Hotel in Little Rock. The award is given annually to the nation's top NCAA Division I assistant football coach. Davis was also a Broyles Award finalist in 1999.

Sometimes the best coach is the one that gets out of the way and lets the player do his thing.

Their OL coach is the one that turned that offense around, not Davis.

There's a conspiracy theory among Texas faithful that they keep giving Davis this award so Texas will keep him thus allowing opposing defenses to gameplan for the same 3 plays week in and week out. Heh.

Absolutely. Mack just got himself a ring and (I assume) a fat raise that way.

Of course, when you have Superman running those plays, being able to gameplan for them doesn't necessarily mean stopping them. Now that Superman is headed to planet Krypton, we'll see if Davis or Brown can coach.

Not yet (that I've heard), but I'm sure it's coming.

I am sure the Rangers will take Mack Brown in the baseball draft or trade for his rights. The NCAA never looked into that assinine Rangers/Ricky Williams trade.

Actually, I think it's already in the works. I've heard of salary bumps for many within the UT athletic department, and not just football. (I wonder if EVERYONE in the athletic department gets a bump.)

Well, moves like that make winning a contagious feeling among the other coaches and staff. Gawd knows UT has absolutely banked on this football and baseball season what winning National Championships and all. I think it's safe to say there's no shortage of cash in the UT athletics coffers at the moment.

There's never been a shortage.
But now it's just ridiculous. Only Notre Dame is in UT's tax bracket, I would think.

Then again - it is named after Broyles, so maybe he got it for being a jerk.
