School Spirit & Dallas

Does Dallas even know SMU is here? Even if you just limit it to University Park/Highland Park, getting more that 100 yards from the campus, you would be hard pressed to even know there was a university there.

Having just returned from taking my first born to Texas Tech, you realize the difference in a hurry. Lubbock welcomes those students, yes they benefit financially, but does Dallas/UP/HP not think that they benefit from SMU ? ? ? Think of the dollars they leave here, no telling how many, but is there a billboard anywhere welcoming home the students? Is there an SMU flag flying anywhere except around the stadium? They should be all over Northpark, Mockingbird Station, Snider Plaza, at least up and down Hillcrest.

I'm sure there are Aggies & Longhorns, and yes Mustangs in Lubbock, but that town supports the team that plays there, and so should Dallas.

This kind of visable support would go a whole lot further than posters with mean looking football players on them, fireworks that burn up 2 years of grass growing, and Navy jets that I'm sure don't fly over for free!

You should see the hospitality they gave all of us here in Columbia, SC. I mean every business within an hour radius has a Gamecock welcome up...

Marketing was too busy thinking through that fireworks idea to get any flags up around town.

Everything's relative I guess. The Tech fans that returned from Columbus were raving about how the entire town was decked out in OSU regalia and that the game-day atmosphere there was light years better than in Lubbock.

Lubbock residents and merchants catch a lot of grief on the Tech BBS forums for not supporting the university more than they do, so I guess it all depends on your perspective.
