2006 Game vs. Texas Tech

Postby aus10fromhous10 » Thu Jan 19, 2006 1:18 pm

I'm just gonna put this out there and see where it goes.....

Will the loss of Cody Hodges and the use of a new quarterback weaken Tech enough to make SMU competitive against the Red Raiders?

OR

Will SMU have the same QB problem considering that Chris Phillips (who's allegedly now a tight end) is the only quarterback who has taken an NCAA snap?

OR

Does SMU have enough returning starters and redshirt freshmen to overcome the weakness in the QB position?

I don't know if I know the answer to any of these questions, I'm just throwing it out there....

Nice. 226 days before the game, and the Official PonyFans.com Texas Tech Game Thread has begun. Sveet.

I don't know if I would equate inexperience at qb with weakness.

Good point. With SMU it is the position itself which has equated to weakness over recent history, without regard to experience.

Plus, the Red Raiders have a pretty dang good QB in Graham Harrell.
Because Tech blew a lot of people out, he got a fair amount of playing time in 2005.
Threw a pretty 30-yard fade for a completion to Jarrett Hicks in the Cotton Bowl, while Hodges was getting his knee taped.
Led Ennis HS to a state title, and his dad is the coach.
When they announced Hodges got the job last August, Leach was on record as saying it was an incredibly tight race, and that Harrell is hands-down the best freshman QB he's ever had.
And that includes Kingsbury.

Nope. We play there again in 07 and 09. Then we're home in 08 and 10. Basically it's a 3-2 deal with Tech having 3 home games, and we're having 2. Same deal with the Texas A&M where we'll go there twice and they only come here once.

Ok I'm confused...posters on this thread are saying the game is in Lubbock, but the pf.com projected schedule has the game Tech at SMU...can anybody clear this up?

No need to be confused. It's at Tech. As I said before, PF.com is incorrect. The schedules haven't been updated in a while. When it was announced that we were playing tech again in '06 - they were put on the future schedule. Whether in error, or because the location hadn't been abbounced yet.

Rest assured we are at Tech to begin the '06 campaign.

And Mustangs35SMU I liked all your info. - sorry to steal your thunder, it was just a little message board humor, but heck, if we cna keep this thread going, it'll be nice and long when the day arrives.

Go Ponies. Beat the hell out of Tech!
