let's get him on staff as the linebackers coach. Bennett was his position coach at A&M and they are very close. It would be great to have a guy who was a star player on the college and pro level in texas on our staff. Good for recruiting and would be something very positive for SMUs imagine in Dallas. A man can dream......

I think this would be a good idea except for the fact that no one knows what kind of coach he will be. We was a great player with a great sense for the game, but would he make a good coach?

Alright not as the LB coach yet...but can he be a grad assistant or something? Would be a great selling point to the recruits

whether he will be a great coach or not, hire him as an assistant to the LB coach we have now, again just for the star power he brings to the staff. There isn't a limit to the number of coaches you can have that I am aware of so what could it hurt?

There is a limit on coaches. I believe it is 9. Still would be nice to have him involved in some capacity. Maybe administration and recruiting.

Adding someone like Dat would mean the administration would actually have to take progressive steps towards being competitive. I doubt the administration would increase the budget to allow Bennett to hire a former recent NFL player like Dat. I like the idea though. It would probably help with recruiting and we all know SMU needs help in that department.

No problem. I had read in a previous thread from someone else that it was 9. I knew there was a limit or every ex UT player would be standing on the sidelines during games in a coaches shirt rather than working in a downtown Austin bank.

I think he wants to coach eventually, but that he is going to take a little time away from football and run his buisnesses.

I sent an email to Copeland about Dat Nguyen. He said that he would take the suggestion to PB. I think Dat would be a great guy to have around the program in some capacity.

I know things AG don't play well here. However, Dat wasn't just an A&M player. He was AG, through and through - loyal to the school and the traditions. That said, I believe if he came to SMU, we wouldn't just get a hired gun, looking for a place to hang out. He doesn't seem to be built that way. I can't help but believe if he agreed to come to the Hilltop, it would be as a Mustang believer. That's something you'd always want for your players. And because he was always having to prove himself through hard work and dedication, I can't help but believe he knows how to translate that and his knowledge of the game to young players. I'd take Dat & Dan Campbell on my staff any day. No bias here, you understand.

I wander if there is any connection between AG Bennett and AG Nguyen? They weren't at A&M at the same time were they?
