Something To Take Note Of

I am extremely pleased with the goals PB set for our team next year. Tonight at the Radisson he stated that this past season we raised the bar and expectations for our football program. He then said he expects nothing less than a CUSA championship next year and as fans neither should we. Of course he then made a little joke saying he would not mind a bowl invite, which was actually pretty funny at that moment.
I am glad the leader of our football team is coming out with actual goals and taking ownership to achieve them. I really feel like we are headed in the right direction. We may not have had a top 10 or even 50 recruiting class in the nation, but we did get some good guys and we have a bunch of good guys redshirted from last year. Our depth should be better than at any other time in the past 6 seasons I would guess. Also, think about this. We got an O lineman from highschool that weighs a legit 300 pounds. I think when I was a freshman at SMU in '01 we might not have had a 300 pounder on our STARTING O-LINE, much less a 300 pound highschool recruit.

First of all, I too am glad PB put those goals forth, and I think they're realistic. As devil's advocate, though, didn't he say the same thing about the WAC when he took the job?

yeah, but after that first season/couple of games he toned down the rhetoric considerably....this is the first i remember him mentioning something like this since the press conference they had when they hired him.

I did a little exercise last night. I looked at that great 2003 recruiting class in the Rivals database, and looked at last year's roster, and guess what, very few of those *** recruits from 2003 were still on our roster in 2005. This was very disappointing though I guess it is normal for SMU.

I don't recall him saying "next year" at the end of that C-USA Championship statement, but I'm like you -- I love the fact that he sets the bar high. Maybe I'm more of a gradual guy: put me down for a winning season and a bowl game. If we win C-USA .... somehow I think I'll live through that, too.

I don't remember hearing "next year" either. I thought for a moment he was going to say we would be playing in the postseason next year but he never did.

You might be right. Now that I think of it I am not sure that he said "next year" but to me it seems like he implied it. He is a smart man to not paint himself in a corner by making absolute statements. I enjoyed hearing his speech and if you couldn't get fired about about next season from it, you must not have a pulse. (Although he hads a few comments that are a stretch. A TCU coach told him he were faster than OU? The TCU game was the BEST atmosphere he has ever been in???)

He did say next year. He then implied that we should expect at least a bowl next season.

No he didn't.
And I was standing next to you, but I didn't see a drink in your hands. Maybe you'd just chugged a few?
