I don't know what the powers at be are thinking, but c'mon guys! Scott Secules is a no brainer.
Just my two cents.

Sorry. I like Scott. But SMU needs 'fresh blood' in the AD slot. Scott is from the Copeland school. Someone needs to come in and shake things up but also 'sell the programs' to the students, faculty, alumni and the greater Dallas community.

Slow down there -- the search committee hasn't even been formed. What if DeLoss Dodds or someone of that ilk suddenly decides it's time for a new challenge? Someone with tons of experience, countless connections in sponsorship, etc. .... what say we let the search committee put out feelers and see who might be interested?

Besides, university policy stipulates that the job has to be posted for 30 days before anyone can be hired. President Turner said yesterday he wants to hire someone to take over after Copeland leaves, ideally without an interim AD. That leaves four months (roughly) before a hire needs to be made.

Because he's part of the status quo. We've got to break out.

Anybody know how many fulltime folks we have working in Marketing?

TWO. 1-2.

We need a shock of a hire. Now.

He might be a great guy but we need outside help - out of the box thinkers desperately....with proven AD background....

whats the hurry?

we need to take a few weeks to make an extremely important decision.

scott is a great guy.

i hope if scott does not get the AD job, he stays on because he could be a great guy to help bridge the past and future.

scott is a great asset for our program whether he is the new AD or not.

I say, lets not rush into any quick emotional decisions.

We need someone who is smart, looks good, smoothe talker, big-time people person, well connected in Dallas and Texas, has success on resume, is tough, determined, but diplomatic, and loves SMU with heart & soul.

This is a huge decision!

Hate to tell you this, Corso but...apparently it has or it's pretty damn close.

Here's the email I got from Dr. Turner:

Thank you for your interest in serving on the Search Committee for the
Athletic Director at SMU. It is always good to have the offer of
volunteer support!

In an effort to keep the committee as small as possible while having
all constituent groups represented, we have already filled the alumni
slots. Nevertheless, I truly appreciate your willingness to serve.

Sincerely,

Gerald Turner

I am worried that if he is not just handed the job, he will take it as a slap in the face. We need him ready on June 1st.

Why did you ask for the alumni position on the search committee?

I didn't. I'll send you a PM of my email to Dr. Turner, if you wish.

Here's a marketing wiz who should be considered .... whoever the twit is that created the X Games. Not only did they create a non-event for ESPN, but now it's considered big enough that other networks (Fox Sports) report on the results. If he can make that waste of time/money into a marketable event, he would have 32,000 paying customers in Ford for the Red/Blue game, not to mention every home game (regardless of the opponent).
