Charlie Waters for AD!!!

Postby LakeHighlandsPony » Mon Feb 06, 2006 8:51 pm

Charlie will stop the [deleted] match with the DMN. If you want Dallas to embrace SMU then hire Charlie. If you want more of the same then hire somebodys Asst. AD from out of state. I think Charlie could get people like Troy and the Jones family behind SMU. We need a money getter and Charlie could sell ice to an Eskimo.

he would be a great strength coach, if faucette is really leaving. You people are goofy if you think he is gonna be the next A.D.

To get Aikman and Jones behind the Mustangs would be huge.

I don't think a brief pissin' match with the DMN is neccesarily a bad thing. Might clear the air.

No way we need to apologize for anything.

We need an AD with some (forgive me) "gravitas". A Parcells-like figure that has a winning history, a rep for getting things done, and eats weasels like Blackistone for breakfast.

(Nothing is stopping Troy from lending a hand. Staubach spoke at the kickoff luncheon last season.)

Does anyone remember the basic fact that Jerry & Family was highly connected at Arkansas before moving down here? Much less, why would he support a potential Cowboy rival for D/FW's entertainment dollars and corporate sponsors?

The Cowboys have no rivals for their share of the entertainment dollar, and that includes SMU, the Mavericks, the Stars or the Rangers. We're a completely different animal, so to speak. And McC27 -- where did you get that Faucette is leaving? All I saw was a report that it's time for his contract to be renewed. Do you know something the rest of us don't? Hope it's not true -- I like Diesel.

I don't know anything. In a couple of articles I have read about Copeland they mention that as the big decision he has left to make. Just seems fishy, why haven't they already made it. Maybe Faucette is looking for another job.

Waters hasn't coached since the early 90's. He wasn't ever a head coach. Correct me if I am wrong, he does not work in sports administration. He might be great to have come to a Mustang Club function, but he would be overmatched as an A.D.

Well for one reason.. Jerry Jr. went to SMU. He's openly supported the Mustangs.. 2nd to Arkansas of course.
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

Faucette isn't leaving, it is just that point in time when his contract is up for renewal. Like any contract, it has to be negotiated and that takes some time.

I can't speak on being for or against any particular person.
However, this particular squabble...it will only be fixed with the DMN doesn't fudge their circulation numbers to increase ad revenue, decides that SMU (being the home town team) is worth covering-win-lose-or-draw, and SMU decides that its ad budget should once again include the DMN for athletics. As I understand it, SMU whittled its ad budget vis-a-vis the DMN to the bone, and deservedly so.

A person doesn't have to be Mr. Waters or anybody else in particular to fix that. $$$ fixes that. And winning forces them to cover SMU.

First I could give a rats tail about Aikman or any Cowboy unless they have ties to SMU. I want to see an AD who gets Don Meredith, Forrest Gregg, Ray Berry, ED, Craig James, Michael Carter excited about SMU and to be our faces to the world. I want to see Dallas businesses involved in sponsoring SMU sporting events. I want to see casual Dallas fans adopt SMU as their hometown team. I want to see South Dallas Gangs wearing Pony caps (okay that might be a little over the top, however, I knew that Georgetown, a preppie school, had become DC's team when gang members started wearing "G" hats). Now who can get us there. Who knows how to market to Dallas? Who knows how to reach alums? Who knows how to get SMU back onto the map? Who knows how to deal with the NCAA suits? Who knows how to relate to our particularly fickle student body? That's who we need to hire. Is Charly Waters that guy, who knows. But those should be the critera and those are the questions that should be asked of the applicants?
