SHOCKER! MORNING NEWS LOSES MORE CIRCULATION!
The news just gets worse for The News, which saw its paid circulation decline by another 7 percent according to the lastest ABC Audit figures. That's more than 32,000 households who are saying "No, thanks" to DMN, despite its mega promotions and near daily launch of new products.

Just about all of the print media is losing circulation. More and more people are getting their news on their computers or on the radio/ipod, etc. They are certainly not losing circulation because of any kind of sports coverage.

Be careful what you wish for. Their first reaction will be to find ways to encourage more readership which translates to a broader market which means even more UT and A&M coverage. We (SMU) will never win the battle of coverage with DMN. We just need to provide a winner which will get us much better coverage than now.
Just be glad you are not limited to the Arkansas Democrat/Gazette.

Exactly the number of seats in Ford Stadium, coincidence?

this could be the first winning campaign in years for SMU fans. You are all just so out of touch with reality its really quite amusing. I love it SMU President can't blame Gregg, Rossley, Shumate, Dement, Bennett, Tubbs or Copeland-I know I'll blame this mess on the Dallas Morning News-and what is so hilarious is that so many of you buy it. Its called passing the buck so the administration deflects criticism from the policies that have led to a historic decline in SMU athletics. Everybody gets excited the Cheerleaders do a Cheer and you forget about what a sorry program this is and what sorry support for the athletic program the administration has provided. Meanwhile the SMU administration is laughing its head off. Count me among those who want someone with a completely new perspective.

You're the one still pumping Charlie Waters for positions at SMU. Didn't he stop coaching in like 1994?

I supported him for Football Coach-I thought then and think now he would have about 3 times the profile as Bennett in the Metroplex and across Texas. Just heard the Hardline gushing about how the Charity Challenge won't be the same if Charlie Waters isn't playing. We blew the biggest public relations coup this school could have since Mustang Mania. Heck he has a bigger profile in Dallas than Bennett right now and all he is is a Fan/Spectator. On the other hand, I haven't mentioned Charlie Waters name once for AD-doubt he'd be interested-don't think he really has the set of skills we need.

This was just relayed information from D Magazine and I thought the DMN haters would get a kick out of it in relation to the latest rumblings....

That is exactly what is happening at the LA Times...revenues are down so they cut costs...cost-cutting is directed more at the SMU's of the world than the UT's.

I thought you had also put out his name. I was beginning to think everyone was looney. I have heard Mark Cuban, Stephen Jones, Craig James, and--my personal favorite--Deion Sanders thrown out there for serious consideration

The point is not that the DMN is losing subscriptions over their SMU coverage. The point is that their total news coverage does not fit the community's profile including the news and editorials, and they won't acknowledge the problem. All papers are losing subscriptions due to the internet and alternative sources, but the industry is not inovating to attract new readers. The average readership is over 50. Rather than improving their product the DMN chose to inflate their numbers so they could charge higher ad rates. A nice little scandal of their own.
The newpaper industry is dying, so we should not get so worked up about the DMN's coverage. They will not change because they are a dinosaur. Do you go to the DMN for the latest recruiting coverage or do you seek other sources? Does ponyfans do a better job of covering our team than Calvin Watkins? It would be nice if they covered us better, but it is not going to happen. And high school kids aren't reading the paper now and won't be in ten years from now.
