Your Choice for AD

It has been interesting to see what people want in an AD ... the qualities, the pedigree, the media savvy, etc.

I would like to pose a question. Without going into realtive summaries like "a hustling guy who will win over DFW" or "a Russ Potts-like gy that'll bring back Mustang Mania," who specifically would you like as an AD? If you could submit a name (or two or three) to the committee, who would you submit?

I'm interested to see where we look and how much we (as posters) know about the business ... and we should have a pretty good list by the end of this thread (or does it ever end?).

Have at it.

1) Secules
2) B. Thomas
3) Anyone who would aggresively market SMU and Ford Stadium.

Let me throw this out there: Barry Switzer.

He could sure as heck get people talking about football on the hilltop. Plus, his connections could really aide the university.

Yeah fellas, I know he's old, corrupt, senile, etc., but who cares? He's a proven winner and proven buzz generator.

Let's let an inside guy like Scott Secules run the nuts and bolts aspects of SMU Athletics. Switzer can be our public face and really get things going with PR and fundraising.

The DMN and The Ticket love Switzer, so we'd automatically get better coverage in the Metroplex. With Switzer bringing in the $$$ and Secules as the behind the scenes guy, we couldn't be stopped!

I swear, do you think before you give your "2 cents"?

That's the dumbest idea i've seen for AD yet. Sure, let's bring in a 69 year old drunk who has no administrative experience and coached teams that got put on probation. he was a joke when the cowboys hired him, had no control over the players, and even admits such himself. Not to mention, when he left OU, he said he'd never coach again, not even for a $1MM. Jones paid more, we can't (back to that whole budget issue).

Quite frankly, I don't know who is out there and I want the best person for the job. If its an inside promotion, like Secules, then he's going to have to show that he has some ideas that are vastly different from the current regime and show that he will have the balls to demand change. Otherwise that will send a very bad signal.

If we go outside, it should be someone who has ties to Texas (preferably Dallas), who has proven marketing ability, who has the ability to delegate and hire good people to be part of a team, who's not shy about raising money, knows something about the media and broadcasting, knows how to work deals with other schools for home/home games, will reach out to stars of the past and get them behind our program again, will relate to the student body, stand up to the Administration, and to be the face for the program. It could be a former or current coach, a former player, a CMO, an alum, a professor, male or female.

WOW that's a tall order. I hope we can get someone with all or most of those qualities.

Hey it is a tall order, but we can't afford the luxury of mediocre.

Inside. Scott Secules I do think he would be more progressive in marketing SMU.
Outside - Young Nelson - steal him from the mav's.
Outside - Craig James??? Popular and knows people. His some would have to transfer - package deal.

Anybody not currently employed by SMU. And then, like cabinet members, the associates and assistants resign, take better jobs and live happily ever after. Then we go to work with a new regime.

According to Rivals.com he has shrunk since he graduated from SMU. The quote on Rivals that stood out is that he is too short for his weight and way too slow. They do not predict any offers at all.
