Texas regents OK Brown raise, stadium expansion

Associated Press

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas football coach Mack Brown got a $390,000 pay raise Thursday after leading the Longhorns to their first outright national championship in 36 years.

University system regents unanimously approved the salary bump, which gives Brown an annual salary of about $2.55 million, keeping him among the highest-paid coaches in college football.

The 54-year-old Brown agreed to a 10-year deal with Texas at the end of the 2004 season that boosts his salary $100,000 every year. Texas won the 2005 national championship with its 41-38 win over Southern California in the Rose Bowl.

The regents also unanimously approved a $150 million expansion and renovation project that will increase Royal-Memorial Stadium seating capacity from 80,082 to more than 90,000.

Scheduled to be completed in 2008, the project focuses on the north end zone section of the stadium and would add office space and put sprinklers in some interior areas that lack such fire controls.

The $150 million includes a $15 million project already under way on the west side of the stadium.

Maybe we can sell them 10,000 of our unused seats for the $150 million and help deray the deficit in the AD.

Well, that'll make 86,000 Texas fans and 4,000 OU fans happy every-other-year. With a 12-game schedule you'd think UT could take a "lo$$" on one game a year... for the sake of tradition. Yeah, right.

With the big money teams, tradition has no legs. I'm surprised they haven't sold naming rights to their stadium yet to some new up and coming Enron type group. It would be a perfect marriage.

Why? Enron didn't know how to cheat without getting caught.... wait.
