Stanford is building a new state of the art stadium this year. Yet despite a highter price tag, it is inferior to Ford Stadium in many ways. We should be very proud of Ford Stadium and should fill it up every Saturday in the fall.

Think they'll beat a crappy team their first game in it and have a future former head coach call it the biggest win in the history of their program?

It's not really a new stadium. They are just taking their current stadium and "re-building" it. What that means I don't know, but I am supposing they will retain the outer walls (or something) and the rest will be redone.

It's as much a new stadium as Ford is. They went in a bulldozed their old stadium then started from scratch on their new stadium. The capacity of the new stadium is 50,000 as opposed to the old capacity of 85,500.

I don't think those are luxury boxes. I think the only luxury boxes are in the pressbox area very similar to ours.

If that's the case, they shouldn't say they are "re-building." We didn't say we were "re-building" Ownby. We said we were knocking it down and building a new stadium.

But I digress. The stadium looks nice, but it's no Ford. It will be interesting to see how it will be received in a Pac-10 primarily filled with older stadiums (the most recent renovation was Autzen Stadium in Oregon. Before that one who knows?).

It will give them an advantage over Cal. Does anyone know if they (Cal) have replaced their wooden bleachers and their "sound system" (speakers on poles encircling the field)?

Does it really matter what Stanford is doing to their stadium? The simple fact is that they are a better academic school than SMU, but they seem to field more competitive teams than we do.

I'm interested in seeing how Walt Harris does on The Farm. He's a good coach in a mediocre league (outside of USC) that gets great pub. AS for the stadium, isn't it gonna be late on completion so they moved the SJSU game to the crappy Spartan Stadium instead of opening with the place undone.

Memorial in Berkley is getting some facelifts, but the problem is that the school has never put much into the football program, even after they ran over Stanford's trombone player in the endzone. It's one of the sore spots for Tedford and one of the reason he threatens to leave. Since they've been resurrected on the gridiron, Cal has actually started putting some money back into the facilities.

I could be wrong, but it occured to me that SMU opened a nice, new, cute, modern stadium & beat Kansas. Then-coach Mike Cavan called it SMU's biggest win, did he not? At any rate, it was said tongue-in-cheek.

Cal is still in the same place, but in order to keep Tedford there, they committed to a new stadium that I believe will come on in the next couple of years. The new stadium was a pre-requisite to Tedford signing the extension.
