I've always wondered why Paulus didn't try for football...I heard rumors that he was trying out for tight end, but I have no idea why he cant try to be a lineman...he's about as physicall imposing as it gets

He weighs what .... 250? 260?
For a big guy, he can move a little bit -- maybe he would make a good lineman.
Or how about a 6'8" defensive end? He already has size that would make a coach drool -- just a matter of teaching him how to play.

Should be interesting to watch, if nothing else. Anyone know what position?

I assume that means he'll start with Chase and Pellerin, right?

VarsityShop wrote: .... Chris Urbanus will not play Spring Ball....
WHAT? Why not?

Heard great things about him in the weight room. I was told that he's "power cleaning" over 350, which apparently is a superhuman amount for a guy who hasn't been lifting that long, and it's also supposed to be perhaps the most accurate indicator of overall strength.

Uh .... OK.

Makes sense, I guess, although I bet a bunch of guys get a good look at that position.

Interesting -- if you have Bam (which he prefers over Cortley, I'm told) and Lindley as your two starting CBs, that's two guys with pretty nice size and speed. It also makes Haynes a valuable backup and/or slot CB.

Which means, I guess, that Hurst or Fleps already is being pencilled in on the other side?

Actually, he's up to about 270. Could he get to 280 or 285 by August? Maybe an offensive tackle candidate?

Has he ever played competitive football at a decent level? When I was there, we had a BB player that came out for football with a lot of hype. He had a great vertical leap. He lasted one hit across the middle and he went home.

I knew of a really good bball player that ended up a monster D-Lineman for the Cowboys. Of course.. he's got a long way to go before he would be an Ed "Too Tall" Jones..

If I'm not mistaken, Marcus Pollard and Antonio Gates never played a down of football even in college -- they were basketball players -- and they've both been to the Pro Bowl as tight ends.

Those comparisons aren't as far-fetched as you might think. Ritter runs well for a big guy, and he has exceptional hands on the basketball court. (Of course, whether he can be taught where to line up, how to not jump offside, etc., remains to be seen.)

I hope you're right about Ritter, even if it's potential only - especially if Urbanus really isn't back.

Obviously, mrydel, you haven't seen how Ritter plays basketball. That's all Ritter does is hit people! Football is the perfect sport for him :!:

If he has never done it before, trust me he will notice a difference. I am not saying that he will not be an All American player, I am only pointing out that pushing people around on a basketball court is a little different than full speed high contact football. My question, again, was not whether or not he could do it but rather had he ever done it before. If he has past experience, even if a short high schoool stint, it would provide much more insight as to his chances of adapting quickly.
