Copeland Released from Hospital Following Kidney Removal..

Postby WorldStang » Wed Mar 01, 2006 10:36 pm

Say what you will about Copeland and whether you've agreed or disagreed with his decisions at SMU.. but I'm sure everyone wishes he and his family a speedy recovery from surgery.

Athletic director Jim Copeland is scheduled for release from Baylor Medical Center today after one of his kidney's was removed during surgery last week. Copeland, who is retiring from the school May 31, will need close to six weeks of recovery before he can return to work. It appears doubtful Copeland will return. John Koerner, SMU's senior associate athletic director for business, is the acting athletic director. Koerner has already conducted meetings in Copeland's nearly empty office.

I do not know the extent of the problems, but my mother is still going strong approximately 47 years after kidney removal. Good luck Mr. Copeland.

Luckily everyone has two kidneys, but when you lose one, it is always dangerous because the other could later fail as well. I lost my step-father to kidney failure. Finally, dialysis didn't work anymore, and there were no transplant candidates out there. My thoughts, prayers and wishes go out to Jim and his family.
