Rumor is Richual Massey has quite the team; he plans on attending school in San Antonio--Texas State (whatever the name is--it was recently changed). Does anyone know if this is true?

I hope that this is not true but if it is it is not a big loss. I wish him all the best. I would have love to have seen him with his strength and speed tried out at LB. I think that he would have been a lot better used there

Well, good luck to him.
More importantly, good luck to DeMyron, Cedrick, and Mr. Fitzgerald.

If he has indeed done this, I believe I saw evidence toward that choice at the UTEP game. He looked mildly dejected, sitting on the bench toward the end of the game with a towel over his head.
We were seated right at the left side (looking down from the home side) at about the 20/25-yard line, and there was a group of people who obviously knew him seated about the 35/40 yard line a row or two up. He carried on a running conversation with this group during the game, and they acted as if they were taunting him at times. I recall hearing "I told you so" rather loudly from the largest dude in that group. At the time, I thought it was in regard to the momentum of the game. However, I recall thinking that Massey looked mighty unhappy for a guy on the winning side of things. I guess in retrospect, it makes more sense.
If he is indeed gone, what a shame...I really wondered if this could be his year...a one-two punch. Guess Martin is significantly better, or rather, Martin fits more behind the current O-line than Massey does.
Bummer.

you wonder if we hadn't trotted him out against OSU his true freshman year and gotten him hurt if things would have been different, provided of course that he is actually leaving.

Thankfully we are still relatively loaded at the RB position. In addition to Martin, Dorsey and Fitz lets not forget that Turner has seen significant carries and we have Mapps who redshirted last year. RB might be our deepest position, although I am also very encouraged by the number of O-Lineman we have been able to redshirt lately as well.

It is a shame if he is leaving - wasn't he one of more higher profile recruits that we have gotten?

PonySnob I believe he was recruited (not sure if offered) by UT to play fullback for them.

He was, but not as seriously as others. This is not good news for SMU. If true, I wish him luck.

So screw the depth at Running back, the kid was boardering on becoming a great blocking back. If this is true, we are really loosing a dimension to the offense.

The guy was 3rd in carries last year. He was healthy. He came here with potential. To date, he hasn't panned out. Do I hope he stays? Yes. Has he shown much? No.

I think the big loss was that Massey has developed into a hell of a blocking back, especially in pass protection.

If this is true, the school to which you refer would be in San Marcos, not San Antonio. It's Texas State University - San Marcos (yes, that's the OFFICIAL name of the school) and it's a Div. 1-AA team that is in the Southland Conference. The Texas State University - San Marcos Bobcats came within one game of playing for the national Div. 1-AA championship game last year.
I hope this is just a bad rumor.

Isn't Texas State where OL Justing Boren transferred? Wasn't fomer OL coach, Blake Miller, hired from Texas State and returned to same?
