Seems that SMU has been and still is the frontrunner for the Pres. Lib. Assuming we get it in June when they announce, what effects do you think this would/could have on our athletic programs, namely the big 2-Football and men's BB??
Seems logical that more $$ donated, more press, more people visiting the school would help recruiting...but how does this compare to earning a bowl bid or making the NCAA tourney??

It will definitely mean more money for the school. I wouldn't be surprised if the influx of money from having the Bush Library boosted us into a perennial Top 25 school in football and basketball.

I don't know about that, but I do think it would furthur develop the school into becoming the academic insitution we want/see SMU to be.

I would imagine if SMU gets the library we could probably wear stickers on our helmets saluting GW Bush and then when fans see our national TV games we will start getting donations from an entirely new stream of revenue. IMO this would be enough money to build the football program into a Top 25 program and enough money to upgrade the basketball facilities which will ineluctably lead to Top 25 status for the basketball program.

I say this b/c UT and and TCU get all of the hype in dallas, the library would make finally make us "Dallas's School" and would make all those G-Dub fans so happy. Gives something for Dallas to be proud of, and as a result they are proud of SMU and may take us as "their own" instaed of "that snobby school in HP". Result=more $, more recruits, top 25.
PS-sorry for the excessive use of quotes. watched austin powers a few days ago...
Fire the "laser".....

I see the library resulting in regular SMU mentions in Leno/Letterman monologues (and not in the most flattering light), and I see traffic issues for those going to games for a couple of years.

I think it's 2 AM in his world, and he's crawling out of a bar, wondering how to get home and how the ground got so close to his face.

How many National Titles has Whittier, Yale and Harvard won lately? In all seriousness, it will mean more money to the University. More foot traffic through the school which will help make the school harder to get into and attract high calibre students. This will give the profs a couple of students deemed worthy of their time, and this will reduce the profs incessant meddling in athletic admissions, transfers and curricula. This will then result in a better football team. And lastly, because we will have a Presidential Library and Baylor and Tech won't, they will be kicked out of the Big XII and we will be extended an invitation along with Rice. And yes, I've already started my St. Patty's celebrations.

i dont think there will be any direct effect on athletics. However, I am starting to think one reason we are not getting going on the Moody renovation and the practice facility (besides $$) is we dont know if we have to plan for the library. obviously the whole land usage plan will change drastically depending on whether we get the library or not. not sure the library planners would want a non descript basketball practice structure at the front door to the library.

I'm still hoping that there could be some synergy between the Bush Library and a Convocation/Athletic Center-since they will be right next to each other.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought the people that would call us "the snobby school in HP" would be many of the same people that would not be voting for Bush. Isn't Dallas County more Democratic by percentage? I want SMU to become "Dallas's Team" to the South/East Dallas crowd, and I don't see that happening because we get W's library.
