Here's a list of what I hope Orsini has toward the top of what has to be a very long priority list to get SMU back to the top:
1) Get students to go to the games. This can be accomplished through giveways, etc. If a student goes to all home football games, for example, they could earn an "exam insurance pass" to be used on only one exam in the semester. This "pass" would prevent an F on the exam--though D would still be fair territory. Of course, the faculty senate wouldn't like that.
2) Renovate Moody Coliseum and build a new building for practice facilities and offices. Ideally, Moody's seating capacity would be lowered to around 6,500 in order to provide luxury suites. Behind the basket seats would be brought closer to the action. Concourses would be made wider, etc.
3) Bring soccer, tennis, and swimming facilities into the 21st century.
4) Add baseball, softball, and Men's and Women's Lacrosse, as well as facilities for baseball and softball. Lacrosse can use the soccer facilities.
5) Engage the general Dallas population. If none of the above steps bring attendance to where it should be, work with local high schools to provide "half-off admission" if a student is on the All-A honor roll, etc.

sounds good to me. Most important, I think, are the revenue sports-FB and BB. How much pub did Bradley and George Mason get just for winning 2-3 games in the tourney? How much has TCU football gained by becoming a bowl team every year and why couldn't we do the same??
Make winning a priority in bb. There is no reason we can't compete in C-USA (except for Memphis!). I would love to see a big name hire. Our new AD took a big chance on O'Leary and it paid off for UCF Football.

Obviously, winning should be #1 on the priority list. In all sports.

Make that winning by doing it the right way with "student athletes"!

I think that if a student does not attend the game, he or she must be stripped naked and be the flag runner at the next game. Or if they miss a game, their grade goes down one letter. Threats work so much better than candy.

I still say we just require the freshman class to attend every home football and mens bball game.
That would also probably end the practice of greeks schduling parties against our games.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

I know some folks on this board who might want to see an SMU coed doing what suggest first!
As for losing a grade as a result of not attending a game...do you actually think that could be enforced? And how would it be monitored? Just asking.

The profs would of course never go for it because well most of them hate athletics anyway. In fact peer pressure is about the only way to get students to go to games. Make 'em streak, and they'll start showing up to games.
