The Tulane game in NOLA

So, Thadfilms, my fiancee and I are planning to head to NOLA to watch the Mustangs take on the Green Wave on September 30. I've even skipping a *gasp* Texas game to be there (Sam Houston State - this will be my petty protest to show my disdain for scheduling such a weak opponent).
Anyway, I'd like to get a big group of people together to go down with us. Several years ago when UT played Tulane there, hornfans.com rented/reserved a bar on Bourbon Street which became the "official" tailgate spot before and after the game. It was great. Everyone met up there and we were the only ones allowed up in the private rooms and balcony area which made for a great time after the game. They even made a special orange-colored drink that those of us with wristbands could get for a discounted price. It was greatness.
So, let's try to get something like this organized. I'm not sure where to begin, so throw out some ideas on here. Basically any reason to go to NOLA is a good reason to go to NOLA. Besides, I'd like to throw some money at the local economy to help them get back on their feet.
P.S. - This is my 500th post. W00t!

Excellent idea, Longhorn! I seem to remember that when we played at Tulane back in 98 or 99 (I can't remember exactly which year), the Mustang Club hosted a pre-game happy hour at the hotel that is right next to the Superdome. That was good, but I like the idea of reserving space at a bar in the Quarter for pre and post game. Count me on board.

Any chance I could get this topic to be a "sticky" for a little while? I'd like to get people's input.

Sorry, but I have no desire to go to Lubbock. There is nothing to do there. That can be another thread, if you so desire.

I was on that trip. The pregame happy hour was okay, but the night before the Mustang Club reserved a private room at Pat O's on a balcony over Bourbon. Me and my buddy were the youngest there by about thirty years, and pounded free hurricanes for the whole evening. We even got a few of the blue-hairs to lighten up.

its sad,but expected, that the mustang club has not already taken the initiative ...this will be the first road game i have planned to attend in several years...i am one of those "blue hairs" who went to san diego, tucson, south bend,norman,austin,,etc....its about time we get a little more fired up,even if it takes a "horn" to stir the pot... at least mustang mania was fun...

The trip that stands out in my mind was from the early 80's. The Mustang band was playing at a corner on Bourbon Street and the girls were coming out on the balconies and showing us there chest [ hope this word doesn't get deleted]. When the band would stop playing the girls would go back inside. Seemed like the band played along time. At least this is what I think I remember, way to many c0cktails that night. What a great time, I even think we won the game. Hope to be there this time also.

LonghornFan68... you looking for this?
Haha! I own your soul.
Of course I am in for anything. Good call on making this a sticky. The only way to make this work, i.e. an official PF.com tailgate spot/bar, is to get the word out. There are a lot more of you Longhorn Fans out there than us Pony Fans - so, even in NOLA, we'd have to make sure a ton of people are on board to make an unofficial/official PF.com space viable.
But let's do it. Pass the PF.com jelly.

Not only will Mrs. RGV and the 3-year old Ponyfan be in tow, but provided the Tulane game is an afternoon affair, we'll be in Baton Rouge that night for LSU-Miss St.
Our plans are an overpriced yet scenic hotel in the Garden District, and for what it's worth, LHF68's idea sounds like a better start than just the 10am crawfish boil or whatever the Mustang Club plans (although we'll be there too).
