Talking with a Techsan friend about the old SWC days, and the topic came up about who was the first African-American football player in the SWC. My general thought was LeVias was one of the first stars, but does anyone know who was the first ? Hope SMU moves to remember him in a more significant way...

The Baylor game in '66 is still legendary...

long live Jerry Kovar..

According to the link below, John Hill Westbrook of Baylor was the first to play in a SWC football game.

Yes, John Westbrook was the first African-American to play in the SWC. Levias was the first African-American on scholarship athlete to do so. Westbrook came to BU as a walk-on, but did earn a 'ship after his sophomore year, I believe.

Yup. Exactly right. But it led to a drunken confusing argument between a certain Baylor grad and me.
