Mustangs on Cowlishaw's chat today

The Mustangs muscled into a 30-min Mavs, Rangers and Stars live chat today with DMN columnist Tim Cowlishaw.

He answered two questions, and sounded surprised to get them.
(I paraphrase-)

1) what about SMU's talent level? getting better?
His weak answer was that HE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THEIR TALENT LEVEL. (Fair enough, it IS a long way from downtown Dallas to SMU.)
But, knowing nothing about SMU talent level, he still intoned that getting Dallas 'a little interested' may not happen. He did mention he'd like to see us get back in the game, though.

2) Will SMU win Conference USA?
He picks UTEP; and noted we beat them last year because the Miners had key injuries.

Typical DMN, but at least we got in there!

And if TCU blah blah blah they would have beat SMU. Ever notice how they dominated OU but because of this and that fell to the Mustangs.

We should be glad he took the question. He is normally too busy trying to become the next Woody Paige or Skip Bayless. I guess everyone has to have a dream.

So he admitted to knowing little about SMU's talent level and acknowledged that we beat UTEP last year, and then picked UTEP to win it? I'd be willing to bet he also can't name a single Miner outside of Jordan Palmer, and regardless of whether he's right about his UTEP prediction for this year, he basically admitted to making a prediction without knowing anything about the subject.

Sounds like he's already "the next Skip Bayless."

(And talk about aiming LOW!)

Injuries is the reason we beat UTEP?

Try 7 turnovers and that is why we beat UTEP.

And we suffered the worst injury of the day when Ryan Kennedy went out. Granted, it was in the last couple of minutes, but it was still the biggest injury of the day. We were simply the better team that day. Maybe they'll get us this year, maybe we'll get them. But for that day, at least, we won because we beat them, pure and simple.

And TCU was caught in between. Everybody has an excuse for losing to SMU. Maybe, just maybe, we have a better team than we have had in the past. A team that sometimes can put it all together and kick some opponents but-.

We had Marshall beat in their house till the refs took away the fumble that would have won the game for us. Tulane and ECU were the sole games that we were putrid last year. Heck we even hung with the Aggies with their air conditioned shoulder pads for a half. But really the turning point last season was not the TCU game, it was the UAB game. That was the game where we figured out how to win. Once we beat them we started really playing well.
