New Requests for the Burger War Team

I've really enjoyed the hamburger reviews.

My hope is that you will now investigate one or all of the following: barbeque, chile, and fried chicken, same as you did hamburgers.

I think the area considered should be the Metroplex. For example, the old Youngblood's Fried Chicken recipe is said to be used by Babe's in Roanoke, and some of the decorative artifacts there are from Dallas landmarks. Similarly, Solly's (Salih's) barbeque in Addison once was located in Preston Center. Then there was the Big Apple in Fort Worth and the sauce recipe is now used by Terry's Grill.

One thing I don't believe you'll find is anything quite like Shanghai Jimmy's Chile Rice, but I'm willing to learn about what is now available.

I hope that one and preferably all of the Burger Review Team (BRT) will undertake this very necessary and desirable work!

You're trying to kill us, aren't you? Somehow I think all that would make us into a bunch of SMU-wearing overstuffed sausages. (Another item for the menu, perhaps?) As I understand it, there are still a couple of burger places to try. After that, and after we clear out our arteries with a strict regimen of exercise and salads, we'll consider your suggestion. Thanks.

Okay, add sausages! Start with the place in Snider Plaza, maybe? I'm not sure you'll do much more damage to yourselves with any other type of food than the one-poundr hamburgers favored by some of group.

You have a point!
We'll give that a shot and compile a full report.

No Quarter, we Shanghai Jimmy fans need your help. We are trying to remember and re create Jimmy's great chili rice recipe. Not many of us left that remember. Google up "shanghai jimmy" and you will find us. There is a Dallas free forum History site that is kinda hard to find that has lots of info about Shanghai Jimmy. There is a link to that site at the Shanghai Jimmy thread at the Roadfood forum.

I will also be interested to see what yall come up with about the state of Chili in Dallas now days. :~)

The whole chili thing could get totally out of hand. For instance...there are some who think real chili should not have tomatos in it and others who think it shouldn't have beans in it and then some who think just the opposite. Some like it spicy as hell and others like it mild. The possibilites are endless. Heavy duty heartburn could be a problem too. Think I will stick to burger wars. Having said that, Snookies makes a pretty nice chili, but then I'm sure some wouldn't like it. :)

PK, he said chile. I suggest you start with habenero and work you way backwards.

I could go for a good BBQ thread. I think the state of BBQ in the metroplex has been progressively slipping for the past 5 years.

BBQ also has several schools of flavor. There is the KC barbecue, Memphis BBQ, Texas BBQ, Carolina BBQ, Chinese, Polynesian and Hawaiian BBQ, all with different styles, flavors, strengths and weaknesses. Then you get into Pork, Beef or Chicken (heck even fish). Then you have to discuss under each sub-type where the food is good.

Looks like a BBQ, and a Chili thread might be good around here. Maybe if we kept it to "who serves" a good... or not so good Chili or BBQ it would not get out of hand.

I feel to new to start a thread here. Looks like these two should be in the Hilltop section though.

Good Q, or a good bowl of Chili... are not so easy to find around the DFW area.

Since it is before Spring Football, the discussion for BBQ is acceptable since none of the other forums get much action. Once we get enough interest we can let this thread die and bring about a full on the Best BBQ in the Metroplex discussion. Also, Polynesian and Hawaiian BBQ is going to be excluded in this discussion. If you have a great BBQ fish place that you know of then let's talk about it.

He may have said "chile", but it was Shanghai Jimmy's Chili Rice he was talking about. Yes, chiles are peppers. They are an ingredient in chili. Shanghi Jimmy put chili on top of his rice...not peppers.

A double #9. The Blackie Sherrod Special. God how I miss it. Nothing else is the same.

If ever out west stop at the Double H grill in Santa Anna, Texas. It may have been the best burger I have ever had. Wow!

In Ohio they put chili on spaghetti.
