call the record for this upcoming season? I'm sure there is going to be a "we suck, 0-12" response to this at some point.

7-5 is the same as last year
8-4 is an improvement

7-5 would be outstanding.

I'd take 7-5, but I'm struggling to wrap my brain around this team until we know more about what's going to be there at quarterback, linebacker, in the secondary and in the kicking game.

Okay,
Here we go.

Week one: Texas Tech 44 SMU 21 L
Week Two: North Texas 21 SMU 28 W
Week three: Sam Houston 14 SMU 35 W
Week four: Arkansas State 17 SMU 42 W
Week Five: Tulane 28 SMU 21 L
Week six: UTEP 42 SMU 21 L
Week seven : Marshall 17 SMU 33 W
Week eight: East Carolina 10 SMU 21 W
Week nine: UAB 17 SMU 14 L
Week ten: Houston 42 SMU 55 W
Week eleven: Rice 10 SMU 28 W

So 7 wins looks good to me

If we don't get atleast 7 wins this year, something seriously went wrong. But then again, this is SMU.

I predict a record for low attendance. Too early to talk about wins and losses yet.

If the Ponies win seven games, the attendance will be better than many of us expect.

If we hang close to tech AND blow out UNT: 8 wins.
If we hang close to tech OR blow out UNT: 7 wins.
If we do neither, 6 wins or less.

Here's the problem. To win seven games, you have homes games with D-2 Sammy-H, Ark St., Marshall, and UAB, even if you can pull some road wins. Now, not saying whether those games are winnable or not, but those are not big-name draws that are going to help you in the attendance game. And that's, what 2/3 (or is it 4/5) of your home schedule?

i can definately say im comfortable with predicting mustangs taking 7-8-9 games this year. 2 reasons why - 1) bennett has been hinting that this will be the best year since he's been here 2) i've heard someone on the football team say going undefeated is by no means of impossible proportions - i know we got ttech and saying something like that may sound like smoke out of the u know what. i am confident with the team we got here and look forward seeing us getting more and more on the map. lets do it mustangs

Sunshiner. Bennett also predicted greatness and went 0-12. Player? Take all with grains of salt. It does sound like smoke out of you know what. Hence the name "flamebo"?

Here's my pre-pre-season predictions with a dash of off season sunshine... I'll look at these again during two-a-days and revise:

L SMU @ Texas Tech
W SMU @ North Texas
W SMU vs. Sam Houston
W SMU vs. Arkansas State
W SMU @ Tulane
L SMU @ UTEP
W SMU vs. Marshall
W SMU @ East Carolina
L SMU vs. UAB
W SMU vs. Houston
W SMU @ Rice

Final Record 9-3 with a trip to the conference championship and a bowl.

But I have to agree with couch'em ... 2 games into the season we will know what type of teams we're going to have.

(With thanks to SMUFootballBlog for the photo) I think SMU is going to give the NC2A the:

Not only the Shocker sign, but isn't that the painful hand gesture made by Houston Cougar fans?
