I was surfing the web today and saw that Bennett says Matt Rushbrook is going to play receiver this week? How did that happen? Doesn't SMU already have a ton of receivers?

Don't you understand by now, bennett hasn't got a clue on how to coach,it is offical as of today- 0-6 he is the worst coach SMU has had since 1960. I reported weeks ago that there was problems inside and everyone said I was a flamer I'm telling you the people on the inside do not like Bennett and they are leaving, privately they say they can not stand to work for him and he is not the same man they knew, they say the HC thing has gone to his head and they are tired of hearing the "if this thing goes down it will gone down doing it my way" Listen Bennett we don't what it to go down, you [deleted] we want to have football at SMU and we all know this may be our last chance do the right thing and admit you are over your head and resign.Don't any of you "Phil Fans" come on and tell me to give him some time, let him recruit. You have no clue,he was a good DC and that's all.He is not HC material. We had the same level playing field today as far as athletes and better ones than Navy,We were outcoached.PERIOD

I think Coach Bennett is great- and trust me I bet he hates loosing just as much or even more that you do! He is establishing discipline on this team, he is a great person, and he wants to build a great program. I am going to say it - GIVE HIM TIME. Yes, maybe this is his first year as a head coach, but I think he has all the tools, the recruiting ablility and the integrity to build a program. We need to stay behind him and the team!

actually Holtz went 0-11 his 1st year at USC, but nobody quit and they turned things around going 8-4 the next year. One major difference was that USC sold out their 80,000 seats for every one of those 11 losses. Believe me, their fan support is 2nd to none. Let's hope 2-3 yrs from now we are playing in front of 25-30,000 at Ford each and every time out. The rest of this year could get ugly. This team will have only itself and a handful of hard core SMU fans to play for.

I agree with what you have said, except for the fact we don't have as long now as Cavan did when he began. The circumstances of Cavan's appearance were different, and if this takes a few years SMU will lose all of the little fan base and alumni support that is has. The athletic program has talked about "The Committment," but things need to happen now in order to give people a reason to invest in this team. SMU had a bomb dropped on it with the death penalty, but it is time that results are seen and we stop making excuses.

Tell me Mustang Mom,I'm willing to listen, what has Bennett done that makes you think he is great. It's obvious you must have great insight since you have a son that plays. And Peruna I don't think most fans are like Mom,not from what I heard after the game on Saturday.

I urge everyone to read the story that Proud Pony Pa linked up under the "Remember What This Man Has Been Through" thread.

I don't know of anyone who deserves our undivided support more than Coach Bennett.

So did Rushbrook even play?

He's a backup DB - didn't see him on defense.

He was hitting punts of 50+ yards in warmups - didn't see him there.

Coach Bennett said he would get a shot at wide receiver - didn't see him there.

Surely he can play somewhere, right?

I agree Diehard, Rushbrook played well his freshman year before RS'ing last year and don't forget about Chris Godfrey who played great last year on ST's and at safety, given the problems we have had with Moodley back there, why not a chance from some proven vets. We started two true freshman, both did not play well.It is clear what bennett is doing, but it is not working.I for one am not buying into Mustang Mom's "we do not have depth" we have some but we do not use it. Take the DL for instance,Croy and Adami have played well (Croy Great) but they need a break, toward the end of the game they were standing up on the snap and engaging their man but they were getting no depth hence more time for the QB, more completions, more TD's,we lose.Don't get me wrong I am not blaming them for the loss just the fact that we are not well coached,we are simply out of gas in the fourth quarter.LB's the same we have many players that are great but only three play, late in the game you don't see them dropping into those passing lanes as quickly or persuing to the outside as quick.Even Vic missed several tackles late in the game, fatigue had to be the factor.I will say again all these are coaching errors and that is the reason we are 0-6.
