A newspaper that actually talks about SMU!

Check this out: there is a newspaper that actually covers SMU. You've seen it: a big daily paper, it sends a beat writer to all the games, etc. And its website includes a message board for SMU fans to talk about the Ponies.

No, of course it's not the Dallas Morning News. They're too busy putting out e-mailed newsletters about UT, A&M and Tech to cover any schools that are actually in Dallas.

The paper I'm talking about is the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Remember, they have TCU over there in Fort Worth, and wouldn't you know it, the Star-Telegram even finds time to cover the Horned Frogs, too. What a concept - covering schools within your own city and metropolitan area, rather than bowing to the alumni bases of out-of-town schools and selling out for nationally-ranked teams. It's not about reporting local news, it's about selling papers! It's the Dallas Morning Newsletter! You pay us enough, and we'll write about you, even if you're not in - or even near - Dallas!

Kudos to the Star-Telegram. Here's the link to the SMU board.

The Fort Worth paper has always been better than the Morning News. The Times Herald did the best job of all of them covering SMU, but of course, it's gone. Morning News bought it and shut it down.
